If I didn't connect with it as much, I could understand how it might be not to everyone's tastes.

Haha, yes, slightly higher brow comedy than Despicable Me 2... Both lots of fun, IMO though!William Jardinenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8660789765534168781.post-20627746308867476822013-07-14T04:49:08.532+01:002013-07-14T04:49:08.532+01:00Right back at ya, I thought your prefering Brave o...Right back at ya, I thought your prefering Brave over MU was very interesting. I guess it's totally down to personal taste. I found Brave to be too personal and small scaled for something so blatantly pre-set for pure epicness. It's really missed opportunity there, and for that reason I can't quite warm to it.

On the other hand, MU knows exactly the role it's supposed to be, and plays to it perfectly. It always will be a fun fun fun entry that allows audience to revisit Mike and Sulley in a setting that invites adventures and ruckus (ie. college). Character developments were quite sufficient so that the prequel doesn't feel too predictable, but the main goal of the movie is still to provide a highly enjoyable time at the theater without relying on fart jokes and slapsticks (ala Despicable Me 2). And it has achieved that role extremely well in my opinions.Gendrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8660789765534168781.post-22361305825356045092013-07-14T02:29:00.154+01:002013-07-14T02:29:00.154+01:00Hear, hear! Lots of fun, well played out, gorgeous to look at, and definite re-watch material!William Jardinenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8660789765534168781.post-70419472121100648912013-07-14T02:28:08.205+01:002013-07-14T02:28:08.205+01:00It's curious, I seem to be a lot higher on Bra...It's curious, I seem to be a lot higher on Brave than a lot of people - guess I just connected with it more than most, same for Tangled, I think. And the whole Mor'du stuff at the end completely floored me.

MU had more modest goals. While it arguably did achieve said goals better than Brave (directorial kerfuffle and so forth), Brave did try for something quite spectacular.

Ah, Krasinski! That's who it was! No, I agree fully, it just didn't sound like it belonged in the film. Hence my 'opened with a whimper' comment.William Jardinenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8660789765534168781.post-4760998870108618092013-07-14T01:45:03.316+01:002013-07-14T01:45:03.316+01:00Absolutely full out loved MU. Not the best pixar film, but surely not close to the worst for sure. Whereas I saw every step of brave before it happened MU supposed me time and time again. Can't wait to go see it again for sure.

Side note: did not enjoy John krazinski as a voice over actor at the beginning. Perhaps he was too cheesy of an opening monster when I wanted someone more grounded and heavier or it's just that I hear his voice too much on Hulu commercials when I want to watch Sherlock.

Fantastic flick. My thoughts are pretty similar. ...Honest review :)

My thoughts are pretty similar. I felt everything was there, but the film could have shown us more of the college itself. The film moved quite fast and, if one weren't privy to the running times of MU and Despicable Me 2, you'd think MU was shorter and not 5 minutes longer than the other animated riot. I wholeheartedly adore the last third of the film though and really appreciated the nuances the film showed from the typical misfit underdog formula.

I'll be seeing this again ^_^Renard N.
