We may not be getting a film from them in 2014, but Pixar are treating us this year. Last week we got a great trailer for the studio's first TV special, the spooky Toy Story of Terror! (Disney stylise it as Toy Story of TERROR!), and this week we got six great new stills, showing off the half-hour special's array of characters old and new.
Carl Weathers (Rocky II, Predator, Arrested Development) has joined the Toy Story cast as Combat Carl, a toy from the same Action Man-ish line that Sid exploded in the first Toy Story. Combat Carl lives in the haunted motel that Bonnie, her family and the toys we've known for many a year find themselves at.
When Mr. Potato Head goes missing, the gang split up to try and find him, and run into Combat Carl, who warns Jessie of the dangers of the motel. Jessie is, as a matter of fact, the main character of the special, while Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) also has a larger role, narrating classic horror tropes to the group. This continues the trend set out by the Toy Story Toons short films series of focusing on other characters, like Ken/Barbie, Rex, and now Jessie.
Angus MacLane (BURN-E, Small Fry) is directing, and the entire Toy Story voice cast, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles and Timothy Dalton, are returning. The special will air on 16th October on ABC in the States, and some time later on Sky Movies | Disney in the UK.
