New 'The Good Dinosaur' Synopsis May Reveal Story Changes

The Good Dinosaur has been through some difficult times at Pixar: it's lost a director (Bob Peterson) and was delayed 18 months. But the film appears to be on the right tracks again, and Pete Sohn (Partly Cloudy) is currently hard at work, directing what will be Pixar's 16's feature film. But it appears some sacrifices had to be made.

The new synopsis for the film (first reported by Stitch Kingdom) seems to suggest a part of the original story is gone. Here's how Pixar teased the movie at the 2013 D23 Expo:
What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In theaters May 30, 2014, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively 70-foot-tall teenage Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event rattles Arlo’s tranquil community, he sets out on a quest to restore peace, gaining an unlikely companion along the way—a young human boy named Spot.
And here is the new synopsis:
The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
'Arlo's tranquil community' appears to no longer be a part of the world of The Good Dinosaur. Which could mean Arlo's family is out of the picture, but that's just speculation. We'll certainly learn more in the near future.

The Good Dinosaur will open on the 27th November (UK) / 25th November (US), 2015.
