Genndy Tartakovsky Reddit Recap: Samurai Jack Movie, Hotel Transylvania and New Powerpuff Girls Series!

Genndy Tartakovsky is a busy man. He's just wrapped on Hotel Transylvania for Sony, which he's now hard at work promoting, he's also working on a CG Popeye film for them, trying to get his planned Samurai Jack film off the ground, and much more that we don't even know about yet! But he still found time to answer questions from rabid fans on Reddit on 27th September.

Questions answered by the very talented Mr. Tartakovsky encompassed everything from working on Hotel T, to his planned Samurai Jack movie, to, excitingly, even a new series of The Powerpuff Girls on the way! Check out our belated coverage of the event which happened the day before Hotel T came out, after the jump break.

When asked "Why the transition from 2d to 3d?", Tartakovsky responded:

"I really didn't have a choice, it's not like anybody's making 2D features

But actually in HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA I was able to infect it with my 2D sensibilities and there's some really fun things in it"

He then fielded a question about when/if we could expect to see his long planned and gestating Samurai Jack film, the creator of the hit show said:

"Not coming out yet! Trying to make it happen. It would be a beginning and an end all in one story."  and "I have the story that I want to tell. So I'm just waiting to sell it"

Adding that the reasons we haven't seen it yet are:

"Money, distribution. It's hard to sell a 2D action oriented stylized movie in this marketplace

BUT if HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA does well it will definitely help"

Unverified as to whether or not this is an official poster and date for a return, but it's sure as hell exciting.

And finally, and perhaps most excitingly, the Hotel Transylvania director was asked "Heard a rumor that The Powerpuff girls is getting rebooted...is this true?", to which he said:

"I have no inside information

But yes"

Eek! And such good timing as well!

Genndy Tartakovsky's Hotel Transylvania is out now in America, and lands here this Friday, 12th October. I'll be seeing it and reviewing it soon!
