The Ice Age franchise has been a long and profitable series of films for Blue Sky. The first one was released 14 years ago and each new film has been a commercial success, making the Ice Age movies the second highest-grossing animated franchise after Shrek; so it makes sense Blue Sky is going forward with Collision Course, the fifth film in the saga; with the risk of producing a tiresome and overcrowded movie. Ice Age: Collison Course, directed by Mike Thurmeier and Galen Chu, will open on 22nd July (US) / 29th July (UK). Here is the official synopsis and the ever-growing cast for the film:
Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
