Poster and Images for Disney and Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger

A glut of brand new shots, and a poster, from Gore Verbinski and Disney's adaptation of The Lone Ranger hit the web today! The super high-budget western epic stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the title character, and is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean 1 - 3, Rango) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, Top Gun).

Check out some brand new images after the jump break!

"It's a dysfunctional buddy movie. It's two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different world views. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements." - Director Gore Verbinski to USA Today.

Every year we hear how Disney wants this film or that to be the next Pirates of the Caribbean; it didn't work with Tron: Legacy, Prince of Persia or John Carter, but if there's anyone who can reproduce the success of Pirates, it's the director, producer and lead actor of the franchise's best entries. And frankly, with a $250 million budget, it really needs to be.

The brand new images show Depp and Hammer side by side, at odds, involved in train robberies, horse rides, and much, much more - Verbinski's first live-action project since 2011's Best Animated Film Oscar winning RangoThe Lone Ranger looks set to be one of the biggest, most intense films of 2013, and exactly what Disney live-action needs!

Because DreamWorks Animation recently bought Classic Media (renaming it DreamWorks Classics) who own the rights to The Lone Ranger, the film is a co-production between rivals Disney and DreamWorks - and actually, sort of, the first live-action film from DreamWorks Animation! The Lone Ranger is due for a 3rd July, 2013 US release, and 9th August, 2013 here in the UK.

“This is their bad-ass moment,” says Verbinski of the scene where The Lone Ranger and Tonto emerge from smoke-filled mayhem (he declines to talk further).Adds Hammer: “Johnny and I have been able to create a really good dynamic between these two guys.” - USA Today

The trailer is set to debut tomorrow on iTunes Movie Trailers at 7AM (PST)/10AM (EST), which equates to 3PM (GMT) over here in the UK. DreamWorks have also promised us the first trailer for their first film of 2013, the Chris Sanders directed The Croods tomorrow. Stay tuned to A113Animation for both of those trailers!
