Disney have revealed, through Box Office Mojo, their upcoming release date schedule, shedding light on when we can expect some of the company's most hotly anticipated films!
Starting from the start, Disney's highly anticipated chronicle of the acquisition of the film rights to Mary Poppins, Saving Mr. Banks is due on 20th December, 2013. The film, which will see Tom Hanks become the first man to ever portray the larger-than-life icon, Walt Disney, on-screen, and stars Emma Thompson as author P.L. Travers, is directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) and looks set to be one of the biggest films of next year!
Then, the big-screen live-action/CG mash-up adaptation of Phineas and Ferb - previously due on 26th July, 2013 - is now due for an unspecified release in 2014. Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt has been nabbed to pen the script. That same year, on 18th April, Disney will release Bears.
Later that year, for a more tent-pole release, Walt Disney Animation Studios have an untitled release due on 7th November. No word on what precisely this film is yet, but it seems likely that it'll be the planned adaptation of Marvel's Big Hero 6, or John Musker and Ron Clements's (The Little Mermaid) next film - we'll likely here more about it this time next year, when Frozen's on it's way to cinemas.
On the more concrete side of things, a year later on 6th November, 2015, Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz) and Marvel's long gestating and highly anticipated Ant-Man film is finally due to hit cinemas! Noteworthy though is that is after the planned 1st May, 2015 release for The Avengers 2, placing Ant-Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three.
And finally, and perhaps most excitingly, we get a release date for yet another untitled Pixar film - because, y'know, titling films is overrated nowadays. The release is likely Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich's Día de los Muertos film, and it's due on 25th November, 2015. This date would mean this would be the first year where Pixar release two films in the same year - with Pete Docter's Untitled Inside the Mind film due on 19th June that year - however, we've heard that before, and the films have always moved. Especially up against Marvel's Ant-Man, it seems unlikely Disney would want to double book themselves, so expect to see this date move.
All very exciting news about very exciting films, and we can't wait to hear more going forward!
Darn, one more year of waiting for the Phineas & Ferb movie. Oh well, hopefully it's for the best so that they can make the film as entertaining as the series is.

Also good to hear about the untitled Pixar film getting a release date. Although I'm curious as to whether this is Lee Unkrich's new project, or a brand new film that we haven't heard anything about yet. Whatever it may be, let's hope 2015 finally turns out to be the year with two new Pixar releases. Just think, if its release date had never been changed, we'd be getting Monsters University next month.
Release date changes really drive me nuts, but in the end, we'll eventually get to see each of these films. Very excited for all of them.
Mm, I was impressed with the Across the 2nd Dimension TV-film, so I have high-hopes for the actual film. Although live-action/CG mash-ups don't have a great track record...

Yes, I was thinking the same about what you said regarding live-action/CG mash-ups. There seems to be some sort of curse on them (look no further than The Smurfs or Yogi Bear for evidence), but I too have high hopes for this one considering it is, after all, Phineas & Ferb, plus we have Michael Arndt as screenwriter; that alone, to me, pretty much guarantees a successful film.
DeleteI think I had read something about a Black Panther movie, and now that you reminded me about it I can't wait! I really don't know a whole lot about the comics, but from what I do know, Black Panther is one of my favorite Marvel heroes.
I think it's just because the medium is used with some crappy concepts - with the right backing, right effort and right team, which this has, it could still be great!
