The 7th A113Animation Awards Results - and a Farewell

The time has come to announce the winners of the 7th and last A113Animation Awards! The winners are announced below, and are in bold and gold.
As always, our personal tastes decide of the Awards, so it's rather a matter of favourite over best, even if it says 'Best' in the Award title.
There will be a short breakdown of the results after the list of winners; as well as a closing statement from William, Munir and me (Damien), since - as we announced last week - this is the end of the line for A113Animation.

Welcome to the 7th A113Animation Awards! We're here to celebrate our favourite animated films of 2017.

The criteria for participating have been made more flexible this time: as always, we will include movies that have been released in the UK during the past year - but we're also letting in animated films that have premiered in the US within the same period. We'll be explaining why at the end of this post.

We are hereby reminding you that the choices we make are based on our personal taste and on the films we were able to see so far (damn released dates) - which would explain why The Breadwinner isn't nominated in any category despite its critical success. That being said, and as usual for the A113Animation Awards, you can still support films that didn't make our 'Best Animated Feature Film' selection in 'The People's Favourite Animated Film Award'. Just vote for your favourite 2017 animated film in the poll below.

The results to the most prestigious and anticipated prizes of the Award season (ahem) are in! As always, keep in mind the winners have been decided by William, Munir and me (Damien) based on our personal tastes.

Welcome to the 6th edition of the A113Animation Awards! We've got a good one for you this year, considering the amount of amazing animated films that have been released in the past 12 months. 2016 is arguably the best year for animation since 2012, and the choices ahead of us are going to be quite tough.

The winners will be picked by me (Damien), while William (our Founder/Editor-in-Chief) and Munir (writer and WDAS specialist) will each choose their favourite movie of the year in the Staff Picks category; you, dear A113Animation readers, will also be allowed to award one of the trophies (The People's Favourite Animated Film Award) through the poll below.

The films eligible for an Award must have been released in the UK in 2016. The Winners will be announced on Saturday 14th January. Without further ado and in alphabetical order by film, here are the 6th A113Animation Awards Nominations:

There were quite a few good animated films in 2015 - some excellent even; but it seems like one in particular was above average. Without further ado, here are our picks for the 5th edition of the A113Animation Awards (the winners are in gold, and there is a breakdown of the results at the bottom of the post)!

After one year off, the A113Animation Awards are back! These are our 5th Awards, and we are following the same formula established in the previous years; a few things have changed, though: we're introducing a Best Writing Award, and we've let go of the Ben Kerfoot Award.
Unlike for the past editions, William won't be picking the winners; I (Damien) will, according to my personal taste and based on the films I've seen. Of course William will also choose his favourite 2015 animated film, as will Munir.
The winners will be announced on Saturday 30th January.

[Updated: April Fool's Joke] Frozen 2 Will Be Live Action

Big surprise! You remember Frozen 2 was officially announced earlier this month by Walt Disney Animation Studios? Well it turns out the decision-makers at the top of the studio had a sudden change of heart. But don't worry, Frozen 2 hasn't been cancelled -- instead, it's going to be turned into a live action film. More below.

The Pixar Secret We Never Heard Of

Will you spot the hidden reference?

In the last few days, an online buzz has caught our attention. According to this Huffington Post article, there's a hidden reference to a certain A113 in nearly every Pixar movie. 

At A113Animation we love that sort of stuff, and, learning about that story, we immediately saw its potential; obviously we had no clue there was this recurring A113 Easter egg in the Pixar films, or what it referenced.

But we thought it would be interesting to share our reaction to this brand new discovery.

4th Annual A113Animation Awards Results

It feels strangely surreal that our little animation blog has been going long enough to be at its 4th annual Awards, but here we are. 2012 was an incredibly strong year for animation, 2013 was less strong. There were some really good animated films released last year, but far fewer great ones than in previous years. As opposed to last year, then, there wasn't much of a spread of awards this year; one film dominated, and you'll never guess which one... So, check out the results below: the winners are in bold and there's a breakdown of who won what and why at the bottom.

So, it's time for us here at A113Animation to get in on the act, with our 4th Annual A113Animation Awards! As part of our expansion, we're very pleased to introduce you to the first episode of the A113Animation Podcast! This possibly-sort-of-regular podcast will cover recent animation news, play clips of interviews we carry out, and review the latest releases: this time, it's Iron Man 3.

A113Animation Assemble: Iron Man 3 Group Review

I've already offered up my extensive thoughts on Marvel's first entry into Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (check out the review here), but I'm not Lotso and this isn't a dictatorship, so it's time the full A113Animation team weighed in on Iron Man 3.

The Shane Black-directed film is in UK cinemas now and opens Stateside on Friday, so now seems as good a time as any for the Avengers of the animation world to assemble to offer up our collaborate, spoiler-free-ish, thoughts on the steel-clad threequel. Obviously, although we agree on some aspects of the film, we disagree on others, so please do enjoy the range of opinions!

The reviews are split into four sections: Story, Direction/Acting, Comparison to Phase 1 films, and Phase 2 thoughts. For your reading pleasure, reviewers are identified by Iron Man-themed colours, Munir is Iron Man red, Damien is Iron Patriot blue, Nadine is Pepper Potts orange and I'm Mandarin green.

As part of our ongoing expansion, we're pleased to officially unveil the A113Animation YouTube channel! Videos will be posted covering everything from news, to reviews, to opinions and everything in between. The first proper video from the channel, covering my updated thoughts on the A113Animation Award winning Best Animated Feature Film of 2012, Wreck-It Ralph, is live now - check it out above!

Introducing the New A113Animation Logo

Yesterday we announced that we're expanding over here at A113Animation. We've got two vacancies at the moment, for Studio Ghibli and Live-action Disney writers; we've launched a shiny new YouTube channel, which we'll be posting some exciting animation news, reviews and opinions to in the coming weeks. As part of our expansion, we decided it was time for a bit of a revamp.

So, Damien stepped in and whipped up this awesome new logo - keeping the Toy Story title panache, but bringing in a more diverse range of animated characters, all hoisting high the mighty A113Animation logo.

Thanks to Damien for the new banner, and watch this space, as we continue to expand in new and exciting directions.

A113Animation is Expanding: Writers Wanted

A113Animation is an animation news, reviews, views and interviews site. Life often gets in the way though, and often I'm so engrossed by the constant glut of exciting animation news that I don't have time for many other features. Reviews come as frequently as films and books do, but there're no retrospectives from me; I've a couple of really rather fun interviews coming in the next couple of months, but interviews aren't here every week. And the other features I write have somewhat fallen into disarray.

So, it's that time of year again, time to present our A113Animation Awards, honouring the best of animation in 2012! 2012 was undoubtedly a very strong year for animated films, it was the first year in recent memory where there was no clear cut winner; rather, a slew of very strong, very exciting and very diverse animated motion pictures. Nonetheless, winners had to be decided, so check out the results below - winners in bold - and a breakdown of what and why afterwards.

William On The Scotty Jo Podcast

A few days ago I had the chance to speak to Scotty Jo Nicholson of the self-titled Scotty Jo Podcast via video chat, to record a little segment for his show (which this week is Conan O'Brien themed). The show's up on Scotty's website now and you can check it out embedded above.

I'm one of a few special guests (his words, not mine) on the episode and Scotty and I discuss A113Animation, our favourite Pixar memories, my thoughts on Brave, 2013 in animation and, yes, I even have a little rant about UK release dates.
