The time has come to announce the winners of the 7th and last A113Animation Awards! The winners are announced below, and are in bold and gold.
As always, our personal tastes decide of the Awards, so it's rather a matter of favourite over best, even if it says 'Best' in the Award title.
There will be a short breakdown of the results after the list of winners; as well as a closing statement from William, Munir and me (Damien), since - as we announced last week - this is the end of the line for A113Animation.

Welcome to the 7th A113Animation Awards! We're here to celebrate our favourite animated films of 2017.

The criteria for participating have been made more flexible this time: as always, we will include movies that have been released in the UK during the past year - but we're also letting in animated films that have premiered in the US within the same period. We'll be explaining why at the end of this post.

We are hereby reminding you that the choices we make are based on our personal taste and on the films we were able to see so far (damn released dates) - which would explain why The Breadwinner isn't nominated in any category despite its critical success. That being said, and as usual for the A113Animation Awards, you can still support films that didn't make our 'Best Animated Feature Film' selection in 'The People's Favourite Animated Film Award'. Just vote for your favourite 2017 animated film in the poll below.

The results to the most prestigious and anticipated prizes of the Award season (ahem) are in! As always, keep in mind the winners have been decided by William, Munir and me (Damien) based on our personal tastes.
That being said, here are the winners of the 6th A113Animation Awards in bold and gold (go to the bottom of the post for a breakdown of the results).

Welcome to the 6th edition of the A113Animation Awards! We've got a good one for you this year, considering the amount of amazing animated films that have been released in the past 12 months. 2016 is arguably the best year for animation since 2012, and the choices ahead of us are going to be quite tough.

The winners will be picked by me (Damien), while William (our Founder/Editor-in-Chief) and Munir (writer and WDAS specialist) will each choose their favourite movie of the year in the Staff Picks category; you, dear A113Animation readers, will also be allowed to award one of the trophies (The People's Favourite Animated Film Award) through the poll below.

The films eligible for an Award must have been released in the UK in 2016. The Winners will be announced on Saturday 14th January. Without further ado and in alphabetical order by film, here are the 6th A113Animation Awards Nominations:

There were quite a few good animated films in 2015 - some excellent even; but it seems like one in particular was above average. Without further ado, here are our picks for the 5th edition of the A113Animation Awards (the winners are in gold, and there is a breakdown of the results at the bottom of the post)!

After one year off, the A113Animation Awards are back! These are our 5th Awards, and we are following the same formula established in the previous years; a few things have changed, though: we're introducing a Best Writing Award, and we've let go of the Ben Kerfoot Award.
Unlike for the past editions, William won't be picking the winners; I (Damien) will, according to my personal taste and based on the films I've seen. Of course William will also choose his favourite 2015 animated film, as will Munir.
The winners will be announced on Saturday 30th January.

4th Annual A113Animation Awards Results

It feels strangely surreal that our little animation blog has been going long enough to be at its 4th annual Awards, but here we are. 2012 was an incredibly strong year for animation, 2013 was less strong. There were some really good animated films released last year, but far fewer great ones than in previous years. As opposed to last year, then, there wasn't much of a spread of awards this year; one film dominated, and you'll never guess which one... So, check out the results below: the winners are in bold and there's a breakdown of who won what and why at the bottom.

It's that time of year again; we're in the throe of awards season glitz and self-congratulation - and loving every minute of it! So, it's time for us here at A113Animation to get in on the act, with our 4th Annual A113Animation Awards! The winners will be announced on Saturday 15th February, and here's the list of what's nominated (it's a slightly different line-up of awards from last year, but broadly the same).

So, it's that time of year again, time to present our A113Animation Awards, honouring the best of animation in 2012! 2012 was undoubtedly a very strong year for animated films, it was the first year in recent memory where there was no clear cut winner; rather, a slew of very strong, very exciting and very diverse animated motion pictures. Nonetheless, winners had to be decided, so check out the results below - winners in bold - and a breakdown of what and why afterwards.

They've been delayed thanks to Disney's release schedule, but the time is upon us again, and I'm here today to announced the nominees for the 3rd annual A113Animation Awards! This year, we're introducing a few new awards; check out the categories, a few comments about what sort of criteria each category has where necessary, and the nominees who've managed to make the cut this year below.

Note, I haven't seen every single animated film of the year - the most notable omission is Tim Burton's Frankenweenie - and the awards are to be judged on what I have seen, as of today.

[UPDATED: Now Closed] 3rd Annual A113Animation Awards: Competition and Poll

It's awards season, folks. As such, the 3rd Annual A113Animation Awards are fast approaching! Delayed from their usual December slot to allow me to check out Disney's much lauded latest film, (and one I'm extremely excited to finally see) Wreck-It Ralph, the awards are now taking place on 15th February, with nominees to be announced on 9th February.

However, here at A113Animation, we love hearing your say on things, as such we're giving you two chances to voice your thoughts on what the best animated feature film of 2012 was! A poll will appear very shortly on the right-hand side of the blog, collecting votes to decided what "The People's Favourite Animated Film" of 2012 was (that'll run for the next few weeks).

In addition though, we're running our 3rd competition! I'm afraid the prize isn't quite as glamorous as our last one was, but you do get to judge this year's "Second Opinion Award", meaning you get your name up on the blog, alongside your pick for the best animated film of 2012. To enter, as the picture above details, you can do one of three things: Tweet (@A113Animation), Facebook (facebook.com/a113animation) and/or email (contact@a113animation.com) us, saying what your favourite animated film of 2012 was (with or without an explanation) by the end of this month. You can do all three, each one counts as one entry; the winner will be announced and contacted shortly thereafter.

Sorry for the lack of glamorous prizes for this one (there'll be one of those in the near future hopefully!), but please get involved and enter. Best of luck - and remember to vote in the poll when it's up too.

More For Your Consideration Ads: DreamWorks Hammer Rise of the Guardians Promotion!

Awards, awards, awards. Yep, this is another one of those posts. Awards Daily has the latest batch of For Your Consideration ads, and DreamWorks have the majority of them for us; today we get a massive haul of Variety covers promoting the studio's latest, Rise of the Guardians, to Academy voters. Any other year, Guardians would be almost certain for a nomination, but 2012 has been a particularly strong year for animation, and with Frankenweenie all of a sudden emerging as a top contender, DreamWorks are promoting their film as hard as they can (with a strong, but lesser effort for Madagascar 3).

The bold Rise of the Guardians (directed by Peter Ramsey) ads tout some of the film's accolades (including its recent Annie nominations) and tote the simple-but-effective line: "Believe in the best animated film of the year". Check 'em out after the jump break.

UPDATED: Seasonal Updates

Christmastime is upon us again! With less than two weeks to go until the most magical day of the year, I wanted to take a minute to address some blog business. First of all, you'll now see - here on the blog, and on our Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages - our Christmas logos, adding a little bit of festive spirit to our mascots.

Secondly, it's usually this time of year (the 19th, in fact) that we announce our A113Animation Awards, but this year, they're going to take place a little later. Our picks for the best animated films of 2012 will take place on 22nd February, 2013. This means the 3rd Annual A113Animation Awards will more or less coincide with the 85th Annual Academy Awards (they're a little more prestigious, I'll grant you), but the main point of this delay is to allow me the chance to see almost every mainstream animated film: Wreck-It Ralph doesn't open here until 8th February, and I never got the chance to see Frankenweenie in cinemas, so I'll be checking it out when it hits Blu-ray on 11th February. Madagascar 3 arrives on home video the same day, and I hope to check Ice Age 4 out over Christmas. It feels like it'll benefit our awards, if I have a better sense of the whole field.

UPDATE - 17/01/2013, 19:10 (GMT): Frankenweenie's UK home video release has been moved back to 25th February, so it will, alas, not be considered for the 3rd Annual A113Animation Awards, which will now take place on 15th February.

I'll definitely be wishing you a Merry Christmas nearer the time, but, with all this horrid stuff in Newtown, it's worth remembering that, yes, the world is a dark, scary place sometimes, but it's only as dark and scary as the people who inhabit it. As fans of animated films, we tend to be optimists, to search for the happy, the magical, in life; it's up to us to counteract the actions of horrendous psychopaths, with ones of compassion. I'll leave you with an apt, seasonal, quote from Miracle on 34th Street:

"I'm not just a whimsical figure who wears a charming suit and affects a jolly demeanor. You know, I'm a symbol. I'm a symbol of the human ability to be able to suppress the selfish and hateful tendencies that rule the major part of our lives."

Best of the Last Ten Years A113Animation Awards Results!

A couple of months back, we announced two special, commemorative, A113Animation Awards: The Best of the Last Ten Years (2001 - 2011) Awards. We subsequently realised that that's actually 11 (whoops!), but the sentiment remains the same: to recognise and reward the best and brightest of animation over the last decade and a bit. And now we have our winner.

For the past month and a half, we've been running our very interactive "Best of the Last Ten Years (2001 - 2011)" A113Animation Awards. I'll be handing out the official A113Animation Award for that, but we've also been running polls to decide "The People's Favourite" too! Now, we've arrived at the final list of nominees for the two awards.

Best of the Last Ten Years A113Animation Awards - Shortlist Update

To celebrate the best of the best of animation, A113Animation is running a special "Best of the Last Ten Years (2001 - 2011)" A113Animation Awards. We ran an initial poll, to generate a longlist, and the two highest scoring films from that poll automatically advanced to the final shortlist, those films being WALL-E and Toy Story 3. We're now running four polls to narrow down the remaining contenders, the winning film from each poll group joins WALL-E and Toy Story 3 in the final. Now we know two of those films.

The polls for Groups 1 and 2 concluded today. Group 1, our Facebook poll, was won by Pixar's Up, only recently pulling away from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. Group 2, which was on the blog, on the right sidebar, was won by Finding Nemo, in what was essentially a two-horse race with Monsters, Inc. - Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was the only other film to get a vote in Group 2!

So, the currently all-Pixar shortlist of nominees in the final stands like this, in order of votes received:

Best of The Last Ten Years A113Animation Awards Longlist

A few weeks ago, we announced our special A113Animation Awards. This time, we're honouring the "Best Animated Film of the Last Ten Years (2001 - 2011)" (well, actually, that's eleven years... but still), and giving you a say! Since we announced the competition, we've had a poll up on our official Facebook page, to cast your vote in the first round, making sure your favourites go through to the next round! The rules were that any film that receives a vote will progress to the longlist, with the two highest voted films going straight through to the final shortlist nominees. The other films will be subject to more rounds of voting. We also counted votes we received on Twitter. The final tally for the "A113Animation Award for People's Favourite Animated Film of the Last Ten Years" can be viewed after the jump break. Announcing the Best of The Last Ten Years A113Animation Awards

Here at A113Animation, we love animated films (just in case you didn't know). We suspect you do too. For the past two years, we've had our own A113Animation Awards, rewarding the best animated films of the year - we'll continue this in December with our 3rd Annual A113Animation Awards.

However, this year, we're also running the "Best of the Last Ten Years" A113Animation Awards! Honouring the best animated films from the start of 2001 to the end of 2011. I'll be conducting my own "Best Animated Film of the Last Ten Years" award, choosing between 1 and 3 films from each year (depending on the strength of the year) and whittling them down over time, to get the final short-list of nominees. You can expect to see the first list of nominees in the next few days.

But we also want YOUR say! There will be a "People's Choice Award for the Best Animated Film of the Last ten Years" too! with the nominees coming from you! Over at our official Facebook page, you'll find a poll, asking you to vote for what you think the best animated film of the past ten years has been. There's some films up in the options already, and voting has begun, but you can add your own options (providing they are from the last ten years) and vote for whatever you deem fit! Every vote counts though, and if you want to vote via Twitter (mention us, @A113Animation, and use the hashtag, #A113TenYears) or email (contact@a113animation.com). The votes will be counted as the weeks progress, and in a few weeks time, there'll be rounds of voting, here on the blog and on Facebook. We will then get it down to a list of ten, and you can vote for your favourites and have your say.

The winners of the two awards will be unveiled sometime in the near future (precise time-frame to come later) and be sure to keep your eyes here, on A113Animation, for the latest updated on the Awards.

Tintin Winwins at the Globes

If you can excuse my shameful pun one moment: yes, The Adventures of Tintin took home the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 69th Annual Golden Globes last night.

The high-octane, globe trotting film, based on the acclaimed books by Hergé, scooped the top A113Animation Award here a few weeks ago, and the HFPA clearly loved it too. Director Steven Spielberg (top) was on hand to collect the award.

This year's Globes marks the first time since the category's inception in 2006, that a non-Pixar film has won the award. Tintin is a very deserving film to unthrone Pixar, and it deserves all the praise it's getting.
