Rovio have announced that Jon Vitti, whose previous credits include The Simpsons and The Office, will pen the screenplay for their upcoming animated Angry Birds movie. Vitti, a Harvard graduate, won an Emmy for his work on King of the Hill, as well writing a couple of episodes of The US Office and being one of eleven credited writers for The Simpsons Movie. Worryingly though, he also co-wrote the Alvin and the Chipmunks film.
Also announced was that former Rainmaker president Catherine Winder - who also executive produced Star Wars: The Clone Wars - has joined the project as a producer. Winder is joining Despicable Me's John Cohen, who is also producing, and Iron Man's David Maisel, who is executive producing.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed commented:
"I’m very excited that Jon and Catherine have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise. I’m confident we are building the right team to deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans."
Rovio announced last week that the film would be distributed by Sony Pictures, to be released worldwide on 1st July, 2016.
