[UPDATED] Watch: Portuguese Teaser for Rio 2

Blue Sky Studios' 8th feature film, Epic (directed by Chris Wedge), is in cinemas on 24th May, so the Ice Age studio is looking towards the future, as they've put together a musical teaser for their upcoming sequel, Rio 2, which appears to have leaked online early - in Spanish Portugese (my ignorance has been pointed out. It's actually Portuguese, not Spanish)!

The Portugese-ness of the teaser is pretty inconsequential, as it mainly consists of various birds body popping and beatboxing. While we don't get any plot details, we do get a look at Nigel (Jemaine Clement), the villainous cockatoo from the first film who's returning to terrorise our protagonists again the second time round. We also get an indication that Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) have been busy since the first film in 2011, as they're accompanied by a trio of little blue Macaws. The teaser also boats Blue Sky's Scrat-tacular new logo (below). UPDATE - 15/05/2013, 21:47 (GMT): Fox have released the teaser in English now, and it's embedded above.

Rio 2 is once again directed by Carlos Saldanha, and hits cinemas 'internationally' on 20th March, 2014; it arrives in the US on 11th April, 2014

  1. Looks like a lot of fun! I really enjoyed Rio, so I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel.

I believe this video is in Portuguese, however. It would make since since the film is set in Brazil.

Loving the new Blue Sky logo as well - I'm quite fond of Scrat.

  2. Haha, yeah, someone just corrected me on the Portuguese thing actually! That's what I get for listening to the Internet! Grr.

But yes, I really liked Rio 1, and with all the same cast and crew, I can't see why 2 wouldn't be just as fun!

  3. Agreed. When they try, Blue Sky can make some fantastic films! Horton Hears a Who is a personal favorite of mine.

  4. Yeah, I loved Horton, and Rio & Robots & the original Ice Age. Unfortunately, sequels are where they've fell down in the past... Here's hoping this is an exception!

Mmm, I wasn't to crazy about the first Rio (wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable either) so I guess I'll have to wait and see how this one goes.
