Variety reports that Sylvain Chomet, the man behind The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist, is going to release his third animated feature in 2017. After venturing into live-action filmmaking, Chomet is coming back to his roots with The Thousand Miles.

The film was inspired by Italian filmmaker Frederico Fellini; after paying tribute to Jacques Tati with The Illusionist, Chomet - who wrote the screenplay - intends to do the same for Fellini.

According to Variety, the plot of The Thousand Miles will revolve around "a pair of ageing brothers who, separated by the twist and turns of life, reunite through their shared life-dream to compete in Italy’s Mille Miglia – a Brescia-to-Rome-and-back vintage car rally, said to be the world’s most beautiful road race."

Variety reveals that unlike Chomet's two previous animated films, this one will be quite talkative; a 27 year-old actor called James Lipsius will make his movie debut with The Thousand Miles. Producer Demian Gregory also claims that the rest of the voice cast will feature "a gala of international A-list actors."

Production should start later this month.
