It was announced earlier this week that the first teaser trailer for Moana would be released today. And Disney just delivered it on YouTube. Oh, and it looks absolutely stunning. Get a look at the gorgeous promotional video below.
The teaser is strangely more about demi-god Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) than it is about the titular character, but the animation (including some 2D for Maui's tatoos), visuals and a taste of the score by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa'i are enough to get us excited for Moana.
Here is the official synopsis for the John Musker & Ron Clements film, whcih will be out at the end of 2016:
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes ‘Moana,’ a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui, and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
