Robert Zemeckis Updates Us On Roger Rabbit Sequel

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is fantastic. There are very few who would argue with that statement. There should be a Roger Rabbit sequel. I'd hazard a guess that there aren't all too many people who would argue with that either, and director Robert Zemeckis clearly wouldn't.

Ever an eclectic director, Robert Zemeckis is the man who brought us Forrest Gump, Cast Away, the Back to the Future trilogy, - some less memorable animated efforts like The Polar Express - and, yes, Roger Rabbit. During an MTV interview about his return to live-action, Flight, Zemeckis was quizzed about his long-standing desire to make a Roger Rabbit sequel. His responses give fans a lot of hope for seeing a second outing for Ro in the near future:

"I'm happy with the script. It's very good. It's written by the original writers, and it's good. [But Disney] is still thinking about it."

Fans needn't worry about Roger Rabbit 2 being a CG-fest either, as Zemeckis assures us:

"If I were to do the sequel, it would be done just like the first one. It would look the same way, but we would present it in 3-D in its release. I would do all of the animation hand-drawn; 2-D, but using 3-D tools. It wouldn’t be like Pixar 3-D. It wouldn’t look like that… this would again be another period movie."

And while the director says he won't be re-releasing Back to the Future in 3D, he seems to be all for giving Roger another dimension:

"The only one [of my film's I'd convert to 3D is] Roger Rabbit, because you could really pull the animation out as a separate element. It would be very spectacular 3-D. As far as converting, the Back to the Future films… I don’t see the point in that. But they did a test on Roger back in 2006, somewhere around then, and it looks really great."
