A new Mary Poppins Movie is Being Developed at Disney
Entertainment Weekly reports that Disney is currently developing a new Mary Poppins musical. EW says this shouldn't be a sequel, but also claims the story will be a different one from the 1964 screen adaptation of the P.L. Travers books. More below.
This new Mary Poppins would then be a reboot, taking place in depression-era London, 20 years after the events depicted in the 1964 film, according to EW. The Banks will be back in these new adventures with Mary.
Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) is set to direct, with a screenplay from David Magee (Life of Pi). Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman have the difficult task to write the songs and compose the score, succeeding the Sherman Brothers.
