Disney Animation Officially Announces Moana as 56th Animated Film

In some big news, Walt Disney Animation Studios recently announced that their 56th animated feature film will indeed be Ron Clements and John Musker's Moana! Musker and Clements have an extensive filmography with the studio and are responsible for such classics as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, so a new film by them is always welcome.

Moana is expected to be released on 23rd November, 2016 and will be the second Disney Animation film to be released that year, after Zootopia in March. Disney provided the following synopsis:
"In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore."
Musker also added:
"Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences."
This synopsis sounds very exciting and it's clear that this new fairy tale is right up Musker and Clements's alley. Also, Moana is going to be the first CG animated film from the duo. Disney offered a stunning piece of concept art that shows a glimpse of how the film will look. Check it out:
