Garfield is Coming Back to the Big Screen
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alcon Entertainment obtained the rights for Garfield and are currently developing an animated feature starring the cynical orange cat.
Jim Davis, who created the character in 1978, will serve as an executive producer on the film. John Cohen (producer of Despicable Me and The Angry Birds Movie) and Steven P. Wegner will also produce. No writer or director has been attached to the project yet.
Alcon's plan is to launch a franchise of CG movies.
The challenge will be to adapt a series of three-panel comic strips to a feature-length story; a task that the two live-action films starring Bill Murray attempted; not successfully.
