Tomorrowland Review: Enjoy the Roller Coaster

After the very well received Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird is directing yet another live action film. Will Tomorrowland be as universally praised as all of his other works? Well, no. It isn't.
But I still think people should see it it; more than that: I actually loved the film. Find out why in the following review.

The first official plot details for Brad Bird's Tomorrowland have been revealed, and the lovely people at /Film have got the low down for us.

Brad Bird is churning away on his super-secret project for Disney. Previously titled 1952 and based on a collection of bits-and-bobs stored away in a box within the walls of Disney, the film is being written by Prometheus/Star Trek Into Darkness scribe, Damon Lindelof; Bird and Lindelof are both producing. Towards the end of January, we found out that the film is now officially called Tomorrowland, and speculation ran rampant over what that might entail. Well, provided these new rumours are moderately accurate, the film just became a lot less mysterious...

Brad Bird's Mysterious 1952 Officially Called Tomorrowland

Brad Bird is one of my favourite directors. Obviously. He directed three absolute animatred classics with The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille - as well as helping guide The Simpsons through its golden age and directing one of its best episodes - and proved his live-action chops with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. So I suppose I can't really hold it against him that he's not directing Star Wars: Episode VII, particularly when what he is directing is so intriguing.

With a new reveal today, Bird's next mystery shrouded project got a little less, and also enigmatically a little more, mysterious. D23 revealed on Twitter that 1952, the film which Bird is directing from a story and screenplay by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) is now officially going by the name of Tomorrowland.

Brad Bird to Direct New Film for Disney

Brad Bird, who rose to fame at Pixar directing The Incredibles and Ratatouille - after previously directing The Iron Giant - whose most recent film was the fourth instalment in the super successful Mission: Impossible franchise - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - has just been announced to be working on a mystery project for Disney.

Via Indiewire and Deadline, we have learnt that the Ratatouille director is now helming a film for Disney called 1952. Not to be confused with 1906 - the film Bird has been working on for a while about the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 - the script for 1952 is being penned by Lost and Prometheus scribe, Damon Lindelof.

Other than this interesting and exciting pairing, we know little about the film - possible scenarios include that 1952 was the year that the first hydrogen bomb was detonated, and a killer fog descended on London; but this is pure speculation. But here's hoping it bodes better than Andrew Stanton's John Carter did for Disney.

At any rate, Bird has never let us down, and I can't wait to hear more about this in the future!
