After two live action films, Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, Ratatouille) is back to his animation roots with Incredibles 2, the long awaited sequel to his 2004 superhero movie. Pixar just released a first teaser, mainly starring Jack-Jack Parr. Watch it below.

Tomorrowland Review: Enjoy the Roller Coaster
After the very well received Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird is directing yet another live action film. Will Tomorrowland be as universally praised as all of his other works? Well, no. It isn't.
But I still think people should see it it; more than that: I actually loved the film. Find out why in the following review.

Is 'The Iron Giant' Coming Back to Theaters?
Brad Bird is currently promoting Tomorrowland (which is releasing pretty soon), but Collider asked him a question about one of his earlier films - the first feature he directed, in fact: The Iron Giant. And it looks like the 1999 animated film could be re-released in theaters.

Watch (At Your Own Risk): Third 'Tomorrowland' Trailer
Brad Bird - the director of Tomorrowland - advised people against watching this new trailer in a tweet. More precisely, he only encouraged people who are not yet sold on the movie to watch it. Some plot points are indeed spoiled; so beware, ye who click on the play button.

Pete Docter Was Given Newt Before It Was Cancelled, Says Ed Catmull
Ed Catmull's got a book coming out. Creativity, Inc. tells the story of the studio's rise "from a small, money-losing hardware company to a movie studio with 1,200 employees and a streak of fourteen #1 movies in a row that has garnered 30 Academy Awards and earned more than $7 billion worldwide." And, to help promote that book, the Pixar president has been chatting to Fast Company, spilling a lot of really exciting and interesting titbits from inside the studio's walls. Like, for instance, what actually happened to newt. Read on to find out.

Breaking: Pixar Announce The Incredibles 2! And Cars 3...
You've been asking for it since 2004; every time somebody makes an "unmade sequels that need to happen" list, it's there; and now, it's actually bloody happening: Pixar have officially announced that they're making The Incredibles 2! Also on the way - although far less surprising and largely less welcome - is a third Cars film. And no, it's not April 1st.

The A113Animation Podcast Episode 2 - Epic
Damien's absent this week, so Munir and I discuss Epic alone. There's some varied opinion on the film as I quite liked it and Munir... well, he didn't. We've also got a far more stacked news schedule than we had last time round, so, alongside a range of topics including Disney, Pixar, Brad Bird, Star Wars and WWE, we review Blue Sky Studios' Epic! Fans of Arrested Development won't be disappointed either, as we discuss season 4 of the show. Listen to the podcast for rants galore and to hear me utter the phrase "yolo and so forth".
Apologies for the background noise, we had some recording issues and sadly our limited recording equipment is showing, but we've done our best to edit most of it out. Hence the long wait. The episode is available on Podomatic now, and will be appearing in our iTunes feed and Stitcher playlist soon. Full show notes for the episode are below.

Brad Bird on The Incredibles 2 and Star Wars: Episode VII
Brad Bird's a hot commodity right now. His consistent success is something very few directors who have directed four features can rival: all his films have been critical hits, and all except The Iron Giant have done admirably commercially too (and that was down to lax advertising). Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol proved he can direct live action as well as animation, and he's currently helming the secretive sci-fi flick Tomorrowland for Disney. As such, he was one of the top names bandied about when dream-directors were being postulated for Star Wars: Episode VII. That's not happening, but it can't stop us dreaming. The other Brad Bird project we've all been dreaming of for nigh-on nine years now, is The Incredibles 2. The director recently spoke to THR about both of those prospects.

Possible Plot For Brad Bird's Tomorrowland Revealed
Brad Bird is churning away on his super-secret project for Disney. Previously titled 1952 and based on a collection of bits-and-bobs stored away in a box within the walls of Disney, the film is being written by Prometheus/Star Trek Into Darkness scribe, Damon Lindelof; Bird and Lindelof are both producing. Towards the end of January, we found out that the film is now officially called Tomorrowland, and speculation ran rampant over what that might entail. Well, provided these new rumours are moderately accurate, the film just became a lot less mysterious...

Brad Bird's Mysterious 1952 Officially Called Tomorrowland
Brad Bird is one of my favourite directors. Obviously. He directed three absolute animatred classics with The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille - as well as helping guide The Simpsons through its golden age and directing one of its best episodes - and proved his live-action chops with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. So I suppose I can't really hold it against him that he's not directing Star Wars: Episode VII, particularly when what he is directing is so intriguing.
With a new reveal today, Bird's next mystery shrouded project got a little less, and also enigmatically a little more, mysterious. D23 revealed on Twitter that 1952, the film which Bird is directing from a story and screenplay by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) is now officially going by the name of Tomorrowland.

UPDATED - Star Wars Update: Brad Bird's Out, Who's In?
The hot topic at the moment is who's going to direct Star Wars: Episode VII? Already the most anticipated film in the history of the world, the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy will allegedly see the return of Luke, Han and Leia, with more old faces seemingly set to return, along with everyone and their mum wanting to be a part of the film, which is being scripted by Toy Story 3 writer, Michael Arndt. With all the news we are getting though, the one bit we're not is that all important nugget of who's going to direct it.

Brad Bird to Direct New Film for Disney
Brad Bird, who rose to fame at Pixar directing The Incredibles and Ratatouille - after previously directing The Iron Giant - whose most recent film was the fourth instalment in the super successful Mission: Impossible franchise - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - has just been announced to be working on a mystery project for Disney.
Via Indiewire and Deadline, we have learnt that the Ratatouille director is now helming a film for Disney called 1952. Not to be confused with 1906 - the film Bird has been working on for a while about the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 - the script for 1952 is being penned by Lost and Prometheus scribe, Damon Lindelof.
Other than this interesting and exciting pairing, we know little about the film - possible scenarios include that 1952 was the year that the first hydrogen bomb was detonated, and a killer fog descended on London; but this is pure speculation. But here's hoping it bodes better than Andrew Stanton's John Carter did for Disney.
At any rate, Bird has never let us down, and I can't wait to hear more about this in the future!

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Review - High Octane, Action Packed Thrills Galore
In case you haven't been following news on the latest instalment in Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible series and its production, and before you die of shock at seeing a review of a live-action, spy film on a site about animation; allow me to elaborate:
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol marks the live-action directorial debut of Brad Bird, a CalArts alumni who worked to build up The Simpsons - directing the famed episodes 'Krusty Gets Busted' and 'Like Father, Like Clown' - later moving on to features animation, with the critically acclaimed, traditionally animated, The Iron Giant. However, where Bird is most widely recognised from, is in his capacity at Pixar. A member of the revered 'Brain Trust', Bird directed 2004's The Incredibles (for which he also provided the voice of superhero-fashion designer, Edna Mode) and 2007's Ratatouille. Now though, Brad Bird has pointed himself in the live-action direction, as he helms the fourth entry into the popular Mission: Impossible franchise. As there always are when an animation director crosses over to live-action, or vice versa - as visible in early comments Steven Spielberg directing The Adventures of Tintin, and fellow Pixarian, Andrew Stanton, directing Disney's live-action John Carter - there always some consternation and quiet concern that there skills in their first field may not translate to the latter format; however, there are no such problems here for Brad Bird, as M:I-GP is an awesomely action packed, fast paced rollicking ride.

Brad Bird Joins Twitter
Briefly, the director of such animated greats as The Incredibles and Ratatouille - and more recently the live-action blockbuster, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Brad Bird, has now joined Twitter.
The Academy Award winning filmmaker is joining fellow Pixarians Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich and Ed Catmull on Twitter. His username is BradBirdA113 (rather similar to mine, although he does have more license to use it) and his account can be found here.
Be sure to give him a warm welcome.
