According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Marvel film Big Hero 6 is set to come back, but not on the big screen; the plan is to produce an animated series that will premiere on Disney XD in 2017.

The second full-length trailer for Disney's Big Hero 6 is remarkable for a number of reasons. One such reason is that - in what's an extremely rare move for a trailer for a Hollywood film of this size - it actually focuses on the characters, rather than just a bunch of big action set pieces. Another reasons is that it's really, really good.

Disney recently aired The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic; as well as providing the history of the highest-grossing animated film of all time and announcing the Frozen Fever short film, the TV special also featured a brand new clip from Walt Disney Animation Studios' next film, Big Hero 6. Sequel Potential?

In this day and age, if a movie does well enough, it's common for the studio that made it to announce a sequel right away. Animation studios are no different; DreamWorks Animation is the best example of this practice, as they tend to announce a sequel (or sequels) as soon as a film does good business. Most recently, Warner Bros. Animation announced a sequel to The Lego Movie as soon as the film started earning big bucks at the box office. Other studios, like Pixar, take their time with announcing sequels to their films (just recently we learned of sequels to The Incredibles and Cars). Surprisingly though, the studio that hasn't released many sequels in its long history is the oldest of them all, Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Disney are getting out in front with the advertising for their 54th animated feature, the Marvel-based super-teen film, Big Hero 6. And today, we get two fun new posters for the film, featuring Baymax, the cuddly/friendly-turned-badass robot who promises to be a breakout character in the film.

Frozen's Box Office Success Aftermath: Is Big Hero 6 In Danger of Overly High Expectations?

As you may already know, (unless you've been living under a rock for the past 5 months) Frozen is a worldwide phenomenon. It won two Oscars, people sing "Let It Go" everywhere, and it has grossed more than $1 billion at the box office. This is all great news for Walt Disney Animation Studios, who have been staging this kind of comeback since 2007. Frozen is the result of years of great effort from the hard-working Disney crew, to try and turn things around and became the creative powerhouse they once were way back in the 90s. Still, one question arises after this kind of success: what's next? Will their next films earn anywhere near the same amount of money? One can dream, but $1 billion grosses are not something that can be earned that easily. This puts their next film, Big Hero 6, in a difficult position regarding its box office revenue.

First Look: WDAS' Next Short Film, Feast

Walt Disney Animation Studios have announced their next short film - and released a title card and a snazzy concept first look at it, too - which will apparently debut at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on 10th June. The short, Feast, will then open wide with the studio's next feature film, Big Hero 6, this winter.

4th Annual A113Animation Awards Results

It feels strangely surreal that our little animation blog has been going long enough to be at its 4th annual Awards, but here we are. 2012 was an incredibly strong year for animation, 2013 was less strong. There were some really good animated films released last year, but far fewer great ones than in previous years. As opposed to last year, then, there wasn't much of a spread of awards this year; one film dominated, and you'll never guess which one... Bolt Co-Director Chris Williams Joins Don Hall at Helm of Big Hero 6

Perhaps mirroring the production of their current mega-hit Frozen, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Disney have added Chris Williams, who co-directed 2008's Bolt with Tangled's Byron Howard, as a director of their upcoming Marvel-adaptation Big Hero 6, alongside existing director Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh).

As the D23 Expo is approaching, the Pixar & Disney news is coming in number and it's an exciting time to be an animation fan.

Today, EW.com debuted an interview with John Lasseter, where the chief creative officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios spilled the beans on what will be revealed in the next few days. As an added bonus, the EW interview offers two new images: a concept art from Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, and a Disney's Frozen still.

With Disney's Frozen just around the corner, I think it's time to look back and see the slow-but-sure comeback of Walt Disney Animation Studios since John Lasseter took over. With the Disney Company owning some of the most influential brands in the world (Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel), the Disney Animation Studios sometimes gets lost amidst its more media-frenzy-inducing siblings. Nonetheless, since Walt founded it back in 1923, the Animation Studio has been, and continues to be, the cornerstone of the Disney company (even if sometimes that's not apparent).
