Oscars 2015: Disney Wins It All!

The 87th Academy Awards have revealed their winners in the animation categories. And as you probably guessed from the title of this post, the Oscar goes to…

This is Disney's second win in a row, after last year's Frozen success - a treat that only Pixar managed to accomplish before, having won in back-to-back years with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles and even pulling off an impressive (but well deserved) 4-year streak, from Ratatouille to Toy Story 3. What Disney has done in the last two years is nothing short of spectacular either, and winning this Academy Award, in what was a strong year for animation, is quite a performance. Congrats to directors Don Hall, Chris Williams and to all the Big Hero 6 crew; congratulations also to the other nominees: The BoxtrollsHow to Train your Dragon 2Song of the Sea and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
You can read Munir's glowing review of the Academy Award recipient here.

This was a big night for Disney Animation, as the winner for Best Animated Short Film is Feast, directed by Patrick Osborne. You can watch a teaser for it below.

Additionally, here are some fun tweets from @TheDamKeeper which were posted a few hours before the ceremony:

And finally, the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects went to Interstellar. I personally believed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes should have won this one, as the work WETA Digital did on the apes was pretty amazing, but oh well…

Are you happy with these winners? If not, what were you rooting for? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Can't imagine they'll go the threepeat with Pixar back in the hunt this year. Though Wreck-it Ralph probably should have won over Brave a few years ago.

  2. Yes, Wreck-It Ralph was many people's favourite two years ago, and Pixar probably won thanks to its reputation. I'm guessing things would be reversed today.

  3. Also, they can't go threepeat since there's no Disney Animation film this year.

  4. Yup, I was gonna mention that. I believe it might hurt their chances ;)
