Winter is Coming Again: 'Frozen 2' Confirmed

You knew it was coming. Even with the recent denial of the original film directors, there was never any doubt that a sequel to the massive success that was Frozen would arrive one day - and it will arrive sooner than you would've thought. It was confirmed today that Frozen 2 is indeed in development at the Walt Disney Animation Studios.

ABC's Good Morning America just revealed the first trailer for Disney's upcoming Frozen Fever. The team that brought us Frozen is back for a short film set in Arendelle and it looks like Elsa, Anna Olaf and Kristoff are not the only characters from the feature film to return, as many familiar faces appear in the trailer. You can also catch some notes from the new song Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez have written for the short.

Disney to Release New Frozen Short Film Next Year

Disney have announced a follow-up film to their billion dollar smash-hit Frozen - just not in the form of a feature. No, next year, Walt Disney Animation Studios will release Frozen Fever (an apt term to describe the time since the film's release, actually...) an all new short film, in a similar fashion to the Tangled Ever After short the studio released in 2012.

Frozen's Box Office Success Aftermath: Is Big Hero 6 In Danger of Overly High Expectations?

As you may already know, (unless you've been living under a rock for the past 5 months) Frozen is a worldwide phenomenon. It won two Oscars, people sing "Let It Go" everywhere, and it has grossed more than $1 billion at the box office. This is all great news for Walt Disney Animation Studios, who have been staging this kind of comeback since 2007. Frozen is the result of years of great effort from the hard-working Disney crew, to try and turn things around and became the creative powerhouse they once were way back in the 90s. Still, one question arises after this kind of success: what's next? Will their next films earn anywhere near the same amount of money? One can dream, but $1 billion grosses are not something that can be earned that easily. This puts their next film, Big Hero 6, in a difficult position regarding its box office revenue.

Frozen's everywhere at the moment. "Let It Go" has been covered approximately 2.7 billion times (rough estimate), it's now the eighth highest-grossing film ever made, and you can tell it's big, because it's being furiously parodied. We already got the Honest Trailer for the film last month, and now the folks at How It Should Have Ended have released a Frozen video too. And it's hilarious. Check it out after the jump!

Frozen Overtakes Toy Story 3 to Become Highest-Grossing Animated Film Ever!

At the start of the month, Disney's Frozen became the second animated film ever to pass the billion dollar barrier. And now, as we posited then, it has surpassed Pixar's Toy Story 3's gross of $1.063 billion to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time! Not only that, but, at $1.072 billion, it's also now the tenth highest-grossing film ever.

Frozen's got its talons into pop-culture at the moment, and now the folks at Screen Junkies have released a hilarious 'Honest Trailer' for the film!

Although the comments section is kind of filled with "people like this film therefore it sucks" hipsters, Screen Junkies' good-natured ribbing is really quite funny. I personally like their summing the film up as "the feature length music video for 'Let It Go.'"

Frozen Wins Two Oscars! Mr. Hublot and Gravity Also Take Home Awards

It's been a big few days for Frozen: it's just became only the second animated film ever to pass a billion dollars at the worldwide box-office, and, immediately after that news, it won two Academy Awards at Sunday's Oscars! More below.

Frozen Becomes Second Animated Film Ever to Make $1 Billion!

On the eve of possibly two Oscar victories, musical smash-hit Frozen has just become the second animated film ever to cross the billion dollar mark! This latest landmark makes Frozen Walt Disney Animation Studios' highest-grossing animated film of all time, having passed The Lion King's $987 million gross. It's a magnificent apex to Disney Animation's phoenix-like resurgence since 2006.

To celebrate the film's early digital release on (the US version of) iTunes, Good Morning America had a live sing-along across various locales in the States yesterday, with hundreds of people belting out "Let It Go."

Frozen Wins BAFTA for Best Animated Film!

Frozen's hot streak is continuing into awards season; after winning Walt Disney Animation Studios its first Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, the musical behemoth has now won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film for the studio for the first time (in forever)! Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee were on hand to collect the award at tonight's British Academy Film Awards, hosted by Stephen Fry.

4th Annual A113Animation Awards Results

It feels strangely surreal that our little animation blog has been going long enough to be at its 4th annual Awards, but here we are. 2012 was an incredibly strong year for animation, 2013 was less strong. There were some really good animated films released last year, but far fewer great ones than in previous years. As opposed to last year, then, there wasn't much of a spread of awards this year; one film dominated, and you'll never guess which one... So, check out the results below: the winners are in bold and there's a breakdown of who won what and why at the bottom.

A Plea for The Wind Rises to Win the Oscar

With the Oscars right around the corner, we are all being bogged down with promotional petitions and stunts on who should win Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and on and on. Some of these promotional petitions may be re-releases, special Q&A screenings, or even sing-along versions of the films. And while I'm sure most people regard the Oscars as the ultimate authority on what merits recognition in the world of motion pictures, there has been more than one occasion where the Oscar has been awarded to what can only be regarded as the most popular film of the year, rather than the best film in the category. Unfortunately, I fear this may be another such year where the film that merits the award for Best Animated Feature will be cast aside for the more popular film of the nominations.

Animation at the Box-Office: Frozen Now Over $900 Million; Big Opening for The Lego Movie

It's been a good few months for animation at the box-office, and that looks to continue as we move further into the second month of 2014. With Disney's mammoth hit musical Frozen still going strong, and Warner Bros.' The Lego Movie doing expectedly big business, mainstream American animation is doing immensely well right now.
