[Updated: April Fool's Joke] Frozen 2 Will Be Live Action

Big surprise! You remember Frozen 2 was officially announced earlier this month by Walt Disney Animation Studios? Well it turns out the decision-makers at the top of the studio had a sudden change of heart. But don't worry, Frozen 2 hasn't been cancelled -- instead, it's going to be turned into a live action film. More below.

Winter is Coming Again: 'Frozen 2' Confirmed

You knew it was coming. Even with the recent denial of the original film directors, there was never any doubt that a sequel to the massive success that was Frozen would arrive one day - and it will arrive sooner than you would've thought. It was confirmed today that Frozen 2 is indeed in development at the Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Frozen Fever: Meet the Snowgies

Frozen Fever, the new short based on the massively popular Disney's Frozen, will be in US theaters in three days with Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella; but Yahoo! Movies didn't want to wait any longer to introduce us to some new characters, the snowgies.

ABC's Good Morning America just revealed the first trailer for Disney's upcoming Frozen Fever. The team that brought us Frozen is back for a short film set in Arendelle and it looks like Elsa, Anna Olaf and Kristoff are not the only characters from the feature film to return, as many familiar faces appear in the trailer. You can also catch some notes from the new song Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez have written for the short.

Disney to Release New Frozen Short Film Next Year

Disney have announced a follow-up film to their billion dollar smash-hit Frozen - just not in the form of a feature. No, next year, Walt Disney Animation Studios will release Frozen Fever (an apt term to describe the time since the film's release, actually...) an all new short film, in a similar fashion to the Tangled Ever After short the studio released in 2012.

Frozen's everywhere at the moment. "Let It Go" has been covered approximately 2.7 billion times (rough estimate), it's now the eighth highest-grossing film ever made, and you can tell it's big, because it's being furiously parodied. We already got the Honest Trailer for the film last month, and now the folks at How It Should Have Ended have released a Frozen video too. And it's hilarious. Check it out after the jump!

Frozen Overtakes Toy Story 3 to Become Highest-Grossing Animated Film Ever!

At the start of the month, Disney's Frozen became the second animated film ever to pass the billion dollar barrier. And now, as we posited then, it has surpassed Pixar's Toy Story 3's gross of $1.063 billion to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time! Not only that, but, at $1.072 billion, it's also now the tenth highest-grossing film ever.

Frozen's got its talons into pop-culture at the moment, and now the folks at Screen Junkies have released a hilarious 'Honest Trailer' for the film!

Although the comments section is kind of filled with "people like this film therefore it sucks" hipsters, Screen Junkies' good-natured ribbing is really quite funny. I personally like their summing the film up as "the feature length music video for 'Let It Go.'"

Frozen Wins Two Oscars! Mr. Hublot and Gravity Also Take Home Awards

It's been a big few days for Frozen: it's just became only the second animated film ever to pass a billion dollars at the worldwide box-office, and, immediately after that news, it won two Academy Awards at Sunday's Oscars! More below.

The Snow Queen, like many other Disney projects was in development hell for many years. Constantly revived and shelved, the project never seemed to properly take off and fans never knew when/if the film was finally going to be released. After the latest 2002 attempt was cancelled again, Chris Buck (director of Tarzan) pitched a new version to John Lasseter in 2008 and development started once more. Finally, in 2011, Disney officially announced the film with a new title and a 2013 release date. What nobody expected is that the new film, now called Frozen, was to become a critical darling and a box office behemoth that matched the run of The Lion King almost 20 years ago.

Frozen Wins BAFTA for Best Animated Film!

Frozen's hot streak is continuing into awards season; after winning Walt Disney Animation Studios its first Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, the musical behemoth has now won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film for the studio for the first time (in forever)! Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee were on hand to collect the award at tonight's British Academy Film Awards, hosted by Stephen Fry.

4th Annual A113Animation Awards Results

It feels strangely surreal that our little animation blog has been going long enough to be at its 4th annual Awards, but here we are. 2012 was an incredibly strong year for animation, 2013 was less strong. There were some really good animated films released last year, but far fewer great ones than in previous years. As opposed to last year, then, there wasn't much of a spread of awards this year; one film dominated, and you'll never guess which one... So, check out the results below: the winners are in bold and there's a breakdown of who won what and why at the bottom.

After the more quiet and charming Winnie the Pooh, Disney Animation came firing back on all cylinders with their next film. It was something very different from anything the studio had attempted before, and it seemed like an unlikely endeavour from a studio that seemed more "traditional" in the view of most people. Nonetheless, Wreck-It Ralph came at the perfect time for WDAS, as it helped it reinvent itself and find a new identity, as a pioneer of new and fresh stories, while also developing new technology to match them.

Frozen Takes Home WDAS' First Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature

It's not a shocker, but it's extremely well deserved nonetheless: last night at the 71st Golden Globe Awards, Walt Disney Animation Studios' acclaimed hit, Frozen, took home the statue for Best Animated Feature, making it the first WDAS film to do so since the award's inception seven years ago.

Frozen is riding a tidal wave of momentum right now, and - particularly with some international release dates still to come, and a hopefully big Christmas period haul in the US, UK, and other territories - Disney are capitalising on that, by building the well-deserved hype surrounding the film. Namely, check out this powerful new promo for the film, focusing on the stellar reviews it's earned.

For the record, I've seen it three times now, and loved it whole-heartedly every single time.

Frozen Ices Over the US Box Office; Takes First Place in Second Week

After a strong first week, taking almost $93.6 million in its first 5 days, Walt Disney Animation Studios' Frozen has managed another impressive showing at the US Box Office, supplanting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as the States' top-grossing movie this week. The icy princess pic took an estimated $31.6 million this weekend, bringing its domestic total so far to $134.2 million, and $190 million worldwide.

Frozen Out Now In the UK! Who's Seeing It This Weekend?

It's actually not been a particularly long wait (especially when compared to the 3 month gap between the US and UK releases of Wreck-It Ralph), but UK Disney fans should be extremely happy to know that Frozen, the studio's acclaimed new hit, is out now!
