New French Poster and a Song for DreamWorks' Home

You can't exactly say that DreamWorks has been flooding us with promotional content for their next film, Home. So it's always nice when a new piece of advertising comes our way, here in the form of a colourful French poster, with a tagline warning us that 'The Invasion Begins'.

Wreck-It Ralph Composer on Sequel: "A Story is Indeed Being Written"

Henry Jackman, who has just recently scored Marvel's buzz-generating Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and who has just been announced as scoring Disney's upcoming Marvel adaptation, Big Hero 6), spoke to Collider recently. One very interesting topic of conversation was the rumoured sequel to 2012's Wreck-It Ralph; the composer, who scored the film, says he thinks the film is "officially on the cards."

Henry Jackman has worked with Disney before - he scored 2011's Winnie the Pooh, 2012's Wreck-It Ralph and he's just done Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Disney-owned Marvel - and now he's apparently working on the score for Walt Disney Animation Studios' Marvel adaptation, Big Hero 6, says Film Music Reporter!

Michael Giacchino to Score Toy Story of Terror

Randy Newman has been the definitive Toy Story composer since the original feature film in 1995, but all of the Toy Story Toons have been scored by others: Mark Mothersbaugh scored Hawaiian Vacation; Henry Jackman, Small Fry; electronic artist BT, Partysaurus Rex; now, Film Music Reporter says, Pixar veteran Michael Giacchino is to score the upcoming Halloween TV special, Toy Story of Terror.

Has Star Wars 7 got it's composer? Its director seems to think so.

UPDATED: Michael Giacchino Working On An Unspecified Upcoming Pixar Film

As part of the promotion for next month's Star Trek Into Darkness, composer Michael Giacchino spoke to Swiss blog Owley, to whom he revealed that he is working on another film for Pixar!

This will mark Giacchino's fifth feature film collaboration with the Oscar-laden studio, after previously composing the scores for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up and Cars 2. Which film exactly, though, wasn't specified, and Giacchino offered up a very nondescript "a Pixar film". We know that Thomas Newman is scoring Bob Peterson's The Good Dinosaur, and can only he assume that he's also returning to score Finding Dory, so it would seem likely that Giacchino is going to be collaborating with Up director Pete Docter again, on his new film, Inside Out - currently due 19th June, 2015. UPDATE - 14/04/2013, 19:24 (GMT): Owley himself commented below that the actual original English quotation was:

"Michael Giacchino: Also, there is a project I cannot tell you about. And, a future Pixar thing. I can't tell you about that either.

Owley: So, is that a project that hasn't been spoken of yet?

MG: Yeah."

That certainly seems to imply that Giacchino's working on an as of yet unmentioned Pixar film (Teddy Newton's feature?), but it could just be a matter of the phrasing, and our money's still on Inside Out.

Giacchino is also scheduled to collaborate with The Incredibles director Brad Bird again, on his second live-action feature, Tomorrowland.

Thomas Newman On Board to Score The Good Dinosaur

Acclaimed composer Thomas Newman, who most recently scored Skyfall and Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects, is returning to score his third Pixar film, 2014's The Good Dinosaur. This will be Newman's third film for Pixar (after Finding Nemo and WALL-E).

The composer, who is the cousin of fellow Pixar-composer Randy Newman and of Joey Newman (Adam and Dog), speaking at Le Moyne and Syracuse University a couple of days ago, said that the Pixar film (which is directed by Bob Peterson) would be his next project.

It's great to hear that Newman's returning to Pixar, as all of his work's superlative, particularly his score for WALL-E, which was absolutely out of this world (pun intended). I can't wait to hear what he conjures up next.

The Good Dinosaur opens on 30th May, 2014 in the US and 18th July, 2014 in the UK.

Randy Newman Set to Score Monsters University

I missed this story until now, but Bleeding Cool reported about a month ago, at the premiere of Brave, that Randy Newman is set to score the Monsters, Inc. prequel, Monsters University!

Newman scored the 2001 original, and it was a toss up in speculation as to whether he or another composer would score the 2013 prequel. Newman scored the original two Toy Story films, and its threequel, yet, after scoring Cars, fellow Pixar favourite Michael Giacchino scored its sequel Cars 2 - to give it a different feel. Aside from Toy Story 3, it's been a while since Newman scored a Pixar film, and I can't wait to see what he does with the score!

When interviewed at the Brave (scored by Pixar newcomer Patrick Doyle) premiere, Newman even sang a brief snippet from the soundtrack that he hasn't started on yet!

Monsters University opens on 21st June, 2013 in the US and 12th July that same year here in the UK!

Marcus Mumford Talks About the Brave Soundtrack

I stumbled upon this video the other day but completely forgot to post it until now: Marcus Mumford, the lead singer of British folk-band Mumford & Sons talks (above) about the band's role in writing the song "Learn Me Right" for Pixar's Brave.

Mumford talks about the freedoms of writing for a film as opposed to for a CD, working with fellow Brit singer Birdy and Pixar. It's a very interesting look at the musical side of Pixar - Brave is scored by Scottish composer Patrick Doyle (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Thor) and definitely worth a watch.

The Brave soundtrack promises to be one of the grandest and most immersive Pixar soundtracks to date!

Brave Soundtrack: Sounds of the Highlands

Disney and Pixar issues a press release this morning with some in-depth words on the soundtrack of Brave! Scored not by a Newman, nor Michael Giacchino, Pixar's first fairytale is scored by a newbie to Pixar, Patrick Doyle. Doyle scored Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as well as Marvel's recent box-office hit, Thor. Joining Doyle on the film's musical side are Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis, British folk group Mumford and Sons, singer Birdy and Pixar's own Alex Mandel.


Pixar have also released another parody advert to promote Brave, Bag Pipe Greatest Hits (head to Pixar Corner to see this video feature).
