Randy Newman has been the definitive Toy Story composer since the original feature film in 1995, but all of the Toy Story Toons have been scored by others: Mark Mothersbaugh scored Hawaiian Vacation; Henry Jackman, Small Fry; electronic artist BT, Partysaurus Rex; now, Film Music Reporter says, Pixar veteran Michael Giacchino is to score the upcoming Halloween TV special, Toy Story of Terror.
Giacchino has been a mainstay at the studio for about a decade, having worked on features like The Incredibles and Up, as well as short films such as Lifted, One Man Band and La Luna. The composer has proven so popular with the studio that when its directors Andrew Stanton and Brad Bird branched out into live action, they again enlisted him to score John Carter and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol respectively (he is also scoring Bird's latest feature film, George Clooney-starring sci-fi picture, Tomorrowland).
