First Look: Teaser Trailer and Poster for Laika's The BoxTrolls

Considering Disney only just released the first teaser for a film that's out in November, with Frozen, this is an incredibly quick turnaround. And you won't hear us complaining. Laika have rolled out a teaser trailer and a poster for their upcoming third feature film, The BoxTrolls.

The trailer (embedded above) is wonderful, certainly striking the quirky, charming note that stop motion animation so easily and frequently achieves. The film also seems to be a bit lighter than the studio's two previous, spooky movies, Coraline and ParaNorman. The animation is great, the music is strong, and - what seems to be winning this already hotly anticipated film the most fans - the message is a wonderfully modern and accepting one: "Families come in all shapes and sizes... even rectangles." If the embed above doesn't play for you, check it out on iTunes Movie Trailers here.

The BoxTrolls directors Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable.

A poster for the film was also released, focusing on the eponymous creatures. The BoxTrolls is directed by Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable, and features an absolutely stellar voice cast, including Ben Kingsley, Toni Colette, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Jared Harris, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade and Tracy Morgan.

The synopsis for the film is:

The new 3D animated feature from Laika Studios tells the tale of the Boxtrolls, monsters who live underneath the charming streets of Cheesebridge, who crawl out of the sewers at night to steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend the townspeople have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are a community of lovable oddballs who are raising as one of their own an abandoned and orphaned human boy named Eggs. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture aboveground to save them, where he teams with an adventurous young girl to save not only the Boxtrolls but the soul of Cheesebridge.

The BoxTrolls charms its way into cinemas on 26th September, 2014. With The Good Dinosaur, Big Hero 6, How to Train Your Dragon 2The Lego Movie and now this, next year is shaping up to be arguably the most exciting year for animated film in recent memory.
