Guest Post: DC Animation Releases Flashpoint Animated Feature on DVD

By Juha DeGraw

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox will be the next animated film in the DC universe. The 2011 comic by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert followed The Flash (Barry Allen) as he awakens in an alternate reality where he's stripped of all this powers and the superheroes he knows from his own timeline are completely different.
Flashpoint will release on DVD and Blu-ray July 30, despite not being one of the best critically received crossover stories in the DC universe (unlike the popular Superman crossover Red Son).

The Flash's alternate reality is an interesting one: Batman is not Bruce Wayne but Thomas Wayne who is a much more vengeful superhero after his son (Bruce) is murdered; Superman was not raised by Midwesterners in Kansas but raised in a government facility; Hal Jordan never became the Green Lantern because Abin Sur is never killed; and Wonder Woman's Amazons and Aquaman's Atlanteans are engaged in a deadly war.

DC animated films are typically known for their own twists and tone compared to the original stories from the comics. Batman: The Animated Series, which was syndicated on various networks through directstartv.com, took on its own identity from Frank Miller's original themes, but both were extremely popular in their own right. If you weren't a fan of the original Geoff Johns story, there's still some potential in the film, especially because of the unique crossover approach.

Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in previous DC animated films, will reappear for Flashpoint.
