Acclaimed composer Thomas Newman, who most recently scored Skyfall and Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects, is returning to score his third Pixar film, 2014's The Good Dinosaur. This will be Newman's third film for Pixar (after Finding Nemo and WALL-E).
The composer, who is the cousin of fellow Pixar-composer Randy Newman and of Joey Newman (Adam and Dog), speaking at Le Moyne and Syracuse University a couple of days ago, said that the Pixar film (which is directed by Bob Peterson) would be his next project.
It's great to hear that Newman's returning to Pixar, as all of his work's superlative, particularly his score for WALL-E, which was absolutely out of this world (pun intended). I can't wait to hear what he conjures up next.
The Good Dinosaur opens on 30th May, 2014 in the US and 18th July, 2014 in the UK.
Via Upcoming Pixar.
I'm very excited to see Newman scoring TGD. His scores for Finding Nemo and Wall-E are awesome and last year's Skyfall was amazing as well! I'm sure he'll do a great job on TGD.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see Pixar try out new composers (Patrick Doyle did a great job on Brave!), but it's even better to see them bring back the ones that really work - and Thomas Newman *really* works.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of new composers, I'd love to see Hans Zimmer do a Pixar film - Inside Out maybe.
I'm 95% sure Michael Giacchino will be the Inside Out composer.
ReplyDeleteIt seems very likely. And I'm positive he'll be great. But a guy can dream... (pun intended)
ReplyDeleteHans Zimmer would be an excellent choice for a Pixar film! I still think The Lion King score is his best. Is so epic and heartfelt. Simply amazing. Although after Up, Michael is an excellent choice too.
ReplyDeleteWell isn't this a nice little team A113Animation chit-chat? Haha!
ReplyDeleteYep, his work's great! Plus, a little bit of Incpetion-esque scoring wouldn't hurt the film's mind-theme.
And though we've obviously heard next-to-nothing about it, I'd say it's a reasonably fair assumption that Newman will score Nemo 2?
You never know. Randy Newman never scored Cars 2 either. So if Pixar decided to make a spy movie in the big bad fishy world (pun intended), who knows if Thomas will be back or not, right? :)
ReplyDeleteIs a safe assumption. Only Randy Newman didn't return for Cars 2 but I think Michael was a better choice in this case because the first and the second are very different in tone and themes. The first one is about little town life and the other is a super spy epic more like Mission: Impossible and I think Michael was better suited for that film.
ReplyDeleteWell, hopefully they stay far away from any spy or gangster fish - we don't want a repeat of Shark Tale after all.
