[UPDATED] (Very) Early Oscar Predictions for Best Animated Feature

I know most animated films scheduled for this year haven't even been released yet, but I think it'll be fun to make some predictions based on what we know of each film and weigh up their chances of receiving a nod next year for the next Oscar ceremony. So, without much further ado, here are my (very) early predictions for next year's Academy Awards.

It's the sequel no one asked for! But money. Disney have released the first teaser trailer for the second film in an apparent Planes trilogy, Planes: Fire & Rescue. It's only about a minute long, but it feels much longer... That said, the animation's really nice.

The first Planes film was critically panned (it garnered a caustic 27% on Rotten Tomatoes), but made $206 million from a modest budget of $50 million. Disney will presumably be hoping for a repeat performance with what will be DisneyToon's 62nd (yes, really) film next year.

Planes 2 is directed by Bobs Ganaway (Secret of the Wings), with Julie Bowen (Modern Family) joining the cast alongside a returning Dane Cook. The film flies into cinemas on 18th July, 2014 in the US, and 8th August in the UK.
