Disney Confirms Enchanted Sequel, Complete with Writers and Director

When Enchanted hit back in 2007, it was the real (albeit non-animated) start to the resurgence of Disney Animation. Disney's first great musical film in years, the Amy Adams-starring flick was very well received - and didn't do too shabbily at the box office either. So a sequel has been long expected; that it took 7 years to get properly moving is the only real surprise.

The last film from this very productive era is not often as well remembered as some of the Renaissance's biggest films, but when you look back, you can see that Tarzan ended this period with a palpable bang. Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs's famous novels, Tarzan tells the origin story of the popular hero. As usual with the films from this period, Tarzan excels, with stellar animation, compelling characters and a heartfelt story. Moreover, this was the last Disney film I was interested and excited about, before I became indifferent with their filmography and turned myself completely over to Pixar. That's why Tarzan remains a bright spot, as it comes before a very dark age began at the studio.

Details on DreamWorks' Turbo

Following on from last week where we found out some more details about DreamWorks' upcoming film, Monkeys of Mumbai, we get details on yet another animated film from DreamWorks' very busy upcoming slate.

Today, we learn more about a film named Turbo. The official Facebook pages for DreamWorks and for Turbo provide the following synopsis of the film:

"The story follows an ordinary garden snail who dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world. When a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, Turbo sets out to try to make his dream come true."

Directed by David Soren, written by Soren and Darren Lemke, with Ryan Reynolds voicing the title character; Turbo is due out, as of right now, on July 19, 2013.

I, personally, am liking this slate of upcoming DreamWorks films, I'm looking forward to this, Monkeys of Mumbai and The Croods amongst others and DreamWorks have definitely been heading in the right direction over the past couple of years.

Kevin Lima On Board to Direct Monkeys of Mumbai

News broke over the last couple of days that Kevin Lima, who formerly worked at Disney, directing Tarzan and Enchanted and acting as a Story Editor on Aladdin, is set to direct Monkeys of Mumbai for DreamWorks Animation. The film, which was billed as "the studio's first-ever Bollywood-style animated musical adventure" in a press release on Wednesday, has no announced release date yet but sounds, just going off the working title, pretty fun.

Lima, who is married to former Brave director, Brenda Chapman, is surely going to be a great addition to the DreamWorks team, as only the latest of a long string of Disney staff to flock over to the company behind Shrek.
