Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Etc. Talk Turbo

Jake Hamilton is back with more great questions for big stars, this time for the cast of DreamWorks' Turbo. The film premiered at a CineEurope event in Barcelona late last month, and Jake was on hand to ask some topical questions about the film to stars Ryan Reynolds (who voices the eponymous snail racer), Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Peña and Snoop Dogg. For some hilarious Sam Jackson-y goodness and more, check the interview out above.

Turbo hits cinemas on 17th July in the US, and 18th October in the UK.

New Turbo Clips Show DreamWorks' Snail Pit Crew

DreamWorks have released a couple of new clips from their next feature film, Tubro, over the last couple of weeks, focussing on the team of snails that rally around the titular racer. They're both fun and well animated, but the "Pit Stop" one in particular is far too close to Pixar's Cars for my liking: a slightly odd group of strangers who become friends with a racer and then help him out, complete with pep talk, on the day of the big race... Sounding a little too familiar.

The Croods Review - Prehistoric Fun, Feels and Visual Splendour

*This review is largely spoiler free, but read cautiously if you haven’t seen the film yet*

2012 was an up-and-down year for DreamWorks Animation, with the strong performance of Madagascar 3, but the commercial disappointment associated with Rise of the Guardians (although only in the über-competitive and expensive world of  animation can a gross of $300 million not be a great thing), but 2013 seems to be off to a good start so far. The studio's first film of the year is out now and you know what? The Croods is good. Reviews have been tepidly enthusiastic and, certainly, The Croods isn't up there with How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda 2, but it is still a very fun, very funny and suitably warm film - just another in DreamWorks' recent string of really good animated pictures.

Just ahead of their first release of 2013 (The Croods, which opens this Friday), DreamWorks have rolled out the first full theatrical trailer for their summer flick, Turbo. And it's actually pretty good.

I didn't like the teaser DreamWorks put out back in December. It was one-note and generic, and seemed like something DreamWorks would put out back in the bad old days of Shark Tale and Over the Hedge. This trailer, however, was a lot of fun - head on over to iTunes Movie Trailers to check it out.

New Teaser Poster for DreamWorks' Turbo

DreamWork' release their first film of 2013, The Croods, later this month. As such, the studio (and new distributor Fox) are beginning to slowly turn their promotional attention towards their next release, Turbo. Today that consists of a cool new teaser poster - well, cool design. Not so cool slogan.

Turbo sees an ordinary garden snail (voiced by Ryan Reynolds), with big dreams of becoming a super-speedy Indy-500 racer. In a fortuitous turn of events, the unsuspecting snail gets the Spider-Man treatment, when an accident imbues him with just the speed he needed. The film, whose premise I'm still not sold on, is directed by David Soren (Merry Madagascar) and has an all-star cast including Samuel L. Jackson and Paul Giamatti.

A tie-in series, Turbo: F.A.S.T. (Fast Action Stunt Team), is currently in production. Turbo hits US cinemas on 19th July, it arrives in the UK on 18th October. Check out the teaser trailer here.

Chris Sanders Shares New Storyboards from The Croods

Chris Sanders, director (alongside Space Chimps' Kirk DeMicco) of DreamWorks' next feature film, The Croods, has released some cool storyboards from the caveman-comedy film, due out on 22nd March.

Over the last few weeks, several pieces of news have come to light concerning, arguably, the second biggest animation studio around today, DreamWorks Animation. The studio behind Shrek and Kung Fu Panda is infamous for rolling out an awful lot of films, as such, its roster of upcoming films is very substantial, including sequels, adaptations of short films, a spin-off Penguins of Madagascar movie, and an adaptation of Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants books. Included amongst these films, are two which I'm greatly anticipating: The Croods and Turbo.

Above you'll see a gorgeous new piece of artwork for The Croods, a caveman-era family comedy, directed by Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon) and Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps) and starring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone. The artwork is vibrant and colourful and will hopefully imbue life and fun into the film. The Croods is scheduled for release on 22nd March, 2013.

Secondly, the voice cast for Turbo, the story of a snail with dreams of racing grandeur, has been revealed, along with another gorgeous, more iridescent, piece of artwork (above). Following on from starring in The Croods, Ryan Reynolds will headline Turbo (directed by David Soren) just a few months later on 19th July, 2013. Reynolds will be joined by Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena and Samuel L. Jackson.

On the casting of Reynolds as the lead, DreamWorks' Chief Creative Officer, Bill Damaschke said:

"Ryan Reynolds' infectious enthusiasm and humor will bring life to the lead role of Turbo and set the tone for this amazing roster of all-star voice talent. This high-octane journey will take audiences on the race of their lives and completely re-define the traditional notion of moving at a snail's pace!"

Details on DreamWorks' Turbo

Following on from last week where we found out some more details about DreamWorks' upcoming film, Monkeys of Mumbai, we get details on yet another animated film from DreamWorks' very busy upcoming slate.

Today, we learn more about a film named Turbo. The official Facebook pages for DreamWorks and for Turbo provide the following synopsis of the film:

"The story follows an ordinary garden snail who dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world. When a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, Turbo sets out to try to make his dream come true."

Directed by David Soren, written by Soren and Darren Lemke, with Ryan Reynolds voicing the title character; Turbo is due out, as of right now, on July 19, 2013.

I, personally, am liking this slate of upcoming DreamWorks films, I'm looking forward to this, Monkeys of Mumbai and The Croods amongst others and DreamWorks have definitely been heading in the right direction over the past couple of years.
