Michael Giacchino Will Score Disney's 'Zootopia'

Zootopia, Disney's upcoming animated film, had a presentation in Paris on the 5th October. Six scenes were shown to bloggers and journalists, and an interview with Clark Spencer (who produces the film) was set up. Chronique Disney just posted the best bits of the interview, where Clark Spencer reveals that the score will be written by Michael Giacchino.

Here's a translation of the Clark Spencer quote (which was already translated from English to French):
'Zootopia' is not a musical. Indeed, it's a modern world and we thought that it wouldn't make sense for the characters to break into song. However, music has an important place in the Disney movies. So there are moments with songs, like the scene with Shakira's title. Beyond that, the score has been carefully written thanks to the talent of the great composer Michael Giacchino, with complex sounds and also world music that fits perfectly the film's atmosphere.

Michael Giacchino already worked on five films and a lot of shorts for Pixar, and he has scored a few Walt Disney Pictures films (John Carter, Tomorrowland), but this is is first time writing for a Walt Disney Animation Studios feature-length movie.

Zootopia is directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and will be released on the 4th March (US) / 25th March (UK), 2016.
