The Fusion Network released a documentary called Imagining Zootopia on YouTube; this 47-minute film shows how the 55th classic from the Walt Disney Animation Studios became what it is today. Watch it after the break.

After taking a year off, Walt Disney Animation Studios has returned in a major way with what might possibly be the best film from the new era and one of the best films from the canon ever. Zootopia, the 55th animated film from the studio, is an instant classic perfectly balancing humor, heart and timely themes, all set up against one of the studios' most inventive and gorgeous creations of all time.

The official trailer for Zootopia is here! The Disney film, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore opens in about two months in the US (4th March) and a bit later in the UK (25th of the same month) and the Walt Disney Animation Studios chose the last day of the year to release this big trailer. Michael Giacchino Will Score Disney's 'Zootopia'

Zootopia, Disney's upcoming animated film, had a presentation in Paris on the 5th October. Six scenes were shown to bloggers and journalists, and an interview with Clark Spencer (who produces the film) was set up. Chronique Disney just posted the best bits of the interview, where Clark Spencer reveals that the score will be written by Michael Giacchino.

'Zootopia' Casting News Aplenty

Holy cow! There's certainly something fishy about this teaser poster (which debuted here, not to rat out Yahoo! Movies) for Disney's upcoming Zootopia ! Big Hero 6 is now behind us, so Disney is starting to think forward; and for the WDAS, forward is Zootopia. Their next animated feature doesn't arrive until 2016 but Disney's Tumblr account just revealed a new concept art for it (click on the picture to enlarge), and a new synopsis (read it after the break).

Last Week’s: Munir's Disney Retrospective - Animated Classic #47: Meet the Robinsons (2007).

John Lasseter didn't have it easy when he arrived at the Disney Studio. First, Meet the Robinsons needed a complete overhaul before it could be released in theatres, and then the following film was even more troubled. Bolt was first titled American Dog and it was to be the next project by director Chris Sanders, who co-directed the highly acclaimed Lilo & Stitch (one of the few popular films from the previous era). However, problems in the production led to the removal of Sanders from the director's chair (after which he left Disney and went to DreamWorks) and the team of Chris Williams and Byron Howard taking over. The film was completed in 18 months and, against all odds, it was warmly received and represented another step in the right direction for the studio.

Tonnes of New Details Revealed About Disney's Upcoming Slate!

Blue Sky Disney, who always have reliable tips and sources from inside Disney, have just spilled the beans on what we can expect from the Mouse House post-Big Hero 6!

We're getting the studio's 53rd animated feature this winter, with Frozen; next year we get their Marvel-adaptation, Big Hero 6, (or the year after if you're from the UK); beyond that, we had titbits about a Byron Howard animal comedy, a Ron Clements and John Musker Tiki/Rumpelstiltskin film which may or may not be animated in a Paperman style, and a few other irons on the fire. We also had some release dates with no films matched. But BSD's Honor Hunter just blew all that out of the water with some super exciting details about what we can expect all the way up until 2018! Byron Howard Directing Top-Secret New Disney Film; To Star Jason Bateman

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Byron Howard (Bolt, Tangled) is hard at work on a brand new, top-secret animated film for Disney. No details about the film are known at the time, other than the fact that, according to THR's sources, it's an "untitled animal comedy that does not yet have a release date," which Jason Bateman is in talks to lend his voice to.

Bateman, who has starred in films such as Juno and will next appear on Netflix's resurgence of Arrested Development, hasn't voiced a character in a feature animated film before - but certainly has the comic chops and inherent likeability to pull it off. Howard, likewise, would be facing firsts on the project, having not directed a feature solo before.

It's certainly an exciting prospect, and this - when slotted in with Frozen this winter, Big Hero 6 next year, a new Ron & John film on the horizon and a desired Wreck-It Ralph sequel - means Disney have got a hell of an exciting upcoming slate.

Watch: Tangled Ever After

Quickly, above you can see the very funny short film, Tangled Ever After, that preceded Beauty and the Beast 3D in cinemas. The short film, a mini-follow up to Disney's 2010 (2011 here in the UK) animated release, Tangled, chronicles the misadventures of animal sidekicks Maximus and Pascal during the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder.

The original voice cast, headed by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, returns along with directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, and the short is pure fun! It may be somewhat on the short side, but it may also just be a testament to the great, funny characters crafted by Disney that it just doesn't seem long enough.

Tangled Ever After Stills and Clips

Although there's still no UK release date in sight, Beauty and the Beast 3D is currently playing on limited release in North America, and the newly revitalised Tale As Old As Time is being preceded by an all new animated short, Tangled Ever After.

As such, to promote both the short film and, therein, Beauty and the Beast 3D, Disney has released a couple of stills (above and below) and a video clip (top) from the short. These all give us a glimpse at the story, in which Maximus and Pascal attempt to capture the ringsd in time for Flynn and Rapunzel's wedding; horses don't make great ringbearers.

Tangled Review - A Hair Raisingly Good Return to Form for Disney

Having just been to see Tangled, the day after it opened here in the U.K., I decided to do my first ever A113Animation review.

Tangled is the 50th animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, a studio that, in recent years, has embodied that oh so famous Forest Gump metaphor - Disney is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. However, I can say with some conviction, that Tangled is the best animated film made by Disney (and not Pixar) in over a decade. It was great to see a return to the magical Disney of the nineties to commemorate the 50th Disney Animated Film.
