New Wreck-It Ralph Concept Art - Including a Cartoon John Lasseter!

Disney's 52nd animated feature film, Wreck-It Ralph, hits US cinemas on 2nd November, so the Mouse House have begun heavy advertising for the video-game themed adventure; hoping to replicate the success of Tangled. Denise from Mouse Steps noticed that the artwork from Pixar's Brave at the Magic of Disney Animation attraction at Disney World's Hollywood Studios has been replaced by pre-production art from Ralph!

Included in the concept art (below) was a drawing of a little cartoon man in glasses and a Hawaiian shirt, a man that may look familiar to you. Yep, it seems Disney have included a reference to Pixar and Disney Animation CCO, John Lasseter, in their latest animated film (presumably paying homage to the huge influence Lasseter and co. have had in turning round Disney Animation since the Pixar merger in 2006). This comes after Lasseter had a cameo in Pixar's Cars 2, with the car version of himself, John Lassetire. From the character design, it looks like John will be one of the Nicelanders in the "Fix-It Felix, Jr." arcade game that Ralph is the villain in.

Included amongst the wonderful and quirky artwork are character designs and sketches (we saw some of the character development artwork for Ralph last week) are designs for Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly), Felix (voice of 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer) and several of the other characters that populate the exciting new Disney film!

Above you can see some of the Nicelanders, the inhabitants of "Fix-It Felix, Jr.". And below you can see some of the characters of "Sugar Rush", the Mario Kart inspired candy world that Ralph runs away to, where he bonds with the young "glitch", Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) - as well as the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Glee's Jane Lynch).

Mixed amongst the huge plethora of artwork were some of the wonderfully creative candy themed vehicles that will populate "Sugar Rush".

We also got some great concept art showing off particular scenes and locales within the film (below), giving a real sense of both the heart and the look of the film.

This artwork shows Ralph feeling dejected as the villain, with Felix and the Nicelanders rejoicing.

Here we see Taffyta and some of the other girls hassling Vanellope.

And here we see Vanellope's home, "the Diet Cola Hot Springs, an abandoned mess of a place inside a volcano with Mentos hanging like stalactites."

All of this artwork is completely gorgeous, it has the barmy charm and innocence of Up and there's a warmth that radiates from the artwork and an inherent likeability to the great character designs (and who doesn't love extra John Lasseter?). The Art of Wreck-It Ralph (Chronicle Books) looks set to be a must-buy, and Wreck-It Ralph looks set to be an absolute winner.

Wreck-It Ralph hits US cinemas on 2nd November, and UK cinemas on 15th February, 2013 (that just seems further and further away by the day). Be sure to head over to Mouse Steps to see even more Wreck-It Ralph concept art.
