Though it doesn't sound like it's the concept art that the press touring Disney last week got to see, some brand new artwork from Disney's upcoming 53rd animated feature film, Frozen, has leaked online!
Check it out after the jump break!
Collider brings us some concept art and the title card (top) from the Mouse House's long gestating adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen, which is set to star the voices of Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Idina Menzel (Glee). Frozen is also directed by Tarzan helmer Chris Buck, from a story that Disney and Pixar Animation CCO John Lasseter is said to be very taken with.
The concept art, scattered about this post, is very gorgeous and very regal - yet Disney are keen to avoid the royal route for advertising, after The Princess and the Frog's poor box office returns were blamed on the title. The character designs look solid, although the mountain man - who's the male lead of the film - looks like he's drawing a little too much from Flynn Rider for my tastes.
It's also important to remember that the final film won't look exactly like this, as Frozen is set to, following the success of Tangled, be a CG-Disney Princess movie. It's a shame to see Disney shy away from their forté (traditional animation) with films like this - not to say they've abandoned hand-drawn animation, in fact, with its new Meander technology and the hype surrounding Paperman, it looks set to make a resurgence - but I'm sure Frozen will look great computer animated anyway!
Following from Bolt, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled and Winnie the Pooh and with the phenomenal-looking Wreck-It Ralph due in November (February in the UK), Frozen looks set to continue what surely is the third Golden Age of Disney Animation. And we'll see soon enough, when Frozen hits cinemas on 27th November, 2013 in the US and 20th December, 2013 in the UK.
Here's the latest official synopsis for the film:
In “Frozen,” a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter if the male protagonist looks a bit like Flynn Rider... Bleeding Cool's Brendon Connelly says on Twitter that "Those Frozen concept art images doing the rounds are really old and now completely irrelevant". I thought something seemed a bit off when one of the included images (the one immediately above this text) was a piece of concept art we've seen before, (I've used it to illustrate most of my previous posts about Frozen) dating back to previous incarnations of the film.
Oh well, at least we got a title card...
UPDATE #2
Brendon now also Tweeted us that the title card is a fan-made one. Ah well, at least it looks nice.
