Loving Vincent Wants to Kickstart "World's First Feature-Length Painted Animation"

BreakThru Films, the studio behind the Oscar-winning 2006 short film Peter and the Wolf, have launched a Kickstarter campaign for a very different sort of animated film. Loving Vincent is planned to consist of of 56,800 paintings, from a team of 40 artists, based on the life of Vincent van Gogh. As you can imagine, that ain't cheap. Which is where you can help.

Morph's Coming Back! Aardman Take to Kickstarter.

A few months back, Aardman co-founder Peter Lord announced that machinations were falling into place to bring back one of Aardman's first little plasticine men, Morph. The character, who first appeared alongside Tony Hart in 1977, will be on his way back soon, if Aardman's new Kickstarter campaign takes off!

Princess Mononoke Sequel? Sort Of.

There is a project in the works that picks up 600 years after Princess Mononoke leaves off. Wolf Girl tells the story of "a teenager struggling to find her place in the city, [who] seeks refuge in a magical forest where giant wolves once ruled. When she discovers that humans are cutting down the trees, she unites with the wolves to defend her new home, before it all burns." While this sounds extremely exciting, it is not actually a Studio Ghibli production...

Kickstarter seems to be a very successful way to get your projects funded. Most recently, the Veronica Mars movie is now in development thanks to this crow-funding system. Is a great way to get audiences involved in projects that big studios are not interested in developing. Now, a very particular project needs your help to be developed and if you're an animation fan, you will want to help.

Moon Bear: Fully Funded and on The Pixar Podcast

Over the past month, we've been telling you about Moon Bear, an independent animated short film being animated, directed and written by our friend Scott Nicholson. The film's Kickstarter campaign has been quickly crawling towards its $3500 goal, and we're pleased to report that that goal has now been reached, and in fact surpassed!

Inside Moon Bear: Discarded Storyboards and More

Last week we introduced you to Moon Bear, the great animated short being Kickstarted by Scotty Jo (of The Scotty Jo Podcast). The short is based on a storybook Scott made in college and is in the early stages of production. As such, he recently rolled out the above video, explaining the paramount importance of storyboarding and offering up some discarded boards from the short - set to Michael Giacchino's magnificent Up score.

Back The Moon Bear Animated Short on Kickstarter

You guys remember Scotty Jo, right? Friend of the blog who's been kind enough to have me over on his podcast and let me ramble about animation twice now (with a third time coming up shortly). Well, he's working on a little animated short film of his own, Moon Bear. Moon Bear is based on a storybook Scott himself made in college, a touching story about loneliness, all told in a charming visual style.
