Princess Mononoke Sequel? Sort Of.

There is a project in the works that picks up 600 years after Princess Mononoke leaves off. Wolf Girl tells the story of "a teenager struggling to find her place in the city, [who] seeks refuge in a magical forest where giant wolves once ruled. When she discovers that humans are cutting down the trees, she unites with the wolves to defend her new home, before it all burns." While this sounds extremely exciting, it is not actually a Studio Ghibli production...

Concept art for the film.

Wolf Girl is a fan made concept headed by Nate Drake which is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter. Personally, I tend to write off a lot of fan-made films, but this one might actually have some bite to it! They have well thought out graphics and it sounds as if the story is also well crafted. Check out their project trailer below and on their Kickstarter page, and if you love the project enough, contribute to it, and see it come to fruition - but hurry! They will stop taking pledges on 29th September. Follow the project on Twitter @WolfGirlMovie.

  1. Mmm may be interesting, but it seems a complete departure from Ghibli's film. Let's see how it goes.
