Jennifer Lee to Co-Direct Disney's Frozen

Wreck-It Ralph co-writer Jennifer Lee has just been as the co-director for Disney's 53rd animated feature, Frozen. Lee joins Tarzan and Surf's Up director Chris Buck at the helm of the film, which is due for release on 27th November, 2013 in the US, and not too much later, on 20th December, 2013, in the UK!

After the high-profile directorial ousting of Pixar's first female director, Brenda Chapman, on this summer's Brave, it's a smart move by Disney from a PR standpoint - not to mention that she'll surely bring a lot of skill to the film.

Frozen, a loose adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, has been long gestating at the studio, with this latest incarnation also being produced by Peter Del Vecho (Winnie the Pooh). Del Vecho offered up his comments on Lee's joining the project, saying:

"Jenn has a real connection to the film and creates dynamic and relatable characters. Her sense of comedy, adventure and story structure paired with Chris Buck’s vast experience and incredible instincts create an ideal situation for this film."

To remind yourself of the film's plot, check out the synopsis from today's press release below:

Featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, “Frozen” is the coolest comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.
