Watch: First Trailer for Disney's Maleficent

Following on from the teaser poster we got yesterday, the first trailer for Disney's live adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent, has been released. Watch the trailer below!

It's hard not to be very excited by this amazing first look at Angelina Jolie as the wicked witch. It looks extremely dark, but pretty traditional at the same time. It's safe to say that Jolie is going to be a pretty fabulous villain. The effects look pretty impressive too, which will no doubt be a huge selling point for this fairytale - first-time director Robert Stromberg is a two-time Oscar-winning Art Director, after all.

Here's the synopsis:
From Disney comes "Maleficent"—the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic "Sleeping Beauty." A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well.
Written by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series) and John Lee Hancock (director, Saving Mr. Banks), Maleficent also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple and Peter Capaldi. Check out some images from the film here too.

Maleficent is due for release 30th May, 2014.

Ditto! And that evil laugh at the end...*shivers*
Also, I must say I'm quite fond of Elle Fanning, plus, those visual effects are stunning. If the film turns out to be bad, at least it'll still have plenty of eye candy.

  2. Although the story - from the trailer at least - certainly looks a lot more interesting than Alice in Wonderland or Oz The Great and Powerful!

  3. I am intrigued. There are some pretty awesome images...but something is off for me...aside from the blah voice over. But we shall see...I'm more open about this than Frozen! HAHAHAHA that's ridiculous.
