Disney animation legend Eric Goldberg, who served as hand-drawn animation supervisor for Get a Horse! |
85 years ago today, Mickey Mouse first appeared on our screens in the now classic Steamboat Willie (watch the short in our recap for Disney 90th anniversary here). To commemorate this milestone, Disney have released a brand new clip from Get a Horse!, the vintage-styled Mickey short that precedes Frozen in cinemas.
The clip is cleverly trimmed, in that it doesn't show any of the film's surprising twists or clever trickery. What it does show, though, is the hand-drawn black-and-white animation style, made to mimic Ub Iwerks's animation way back in 1928.
HuffPost/Jim Hill., who brought us the clip, also got a few words from the short's director, Lauren MacMullan, who pitched the idea to John Lasseter and Ed Catmull following encouraging words from Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore. Head over here to check that out.
Get a Horse! will play before Frozen when it opens on 27th November (US)/6th December (UK). Check out my, mildly spoiler-filled, thoughts on the short at the bottom of my Frozen review here.
