With open auditions starting this weekend, Disney have finally announced the release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, ending months of speculation. It will be a Star Wars Christmas, because it's due to open on 18th December, 2015.
Disney are going to rule all aspects of 2015; Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on 1st May, with Brad Bird's Tomorrowland now opening on the 22nd; Pixar will release Inside Out in June and The Good Dinosaur in November; the company will also release Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella and Edgar Wright's Ant-Man in 2015. All that, and a new Star Wars, means it's going to be a banner year for the Mouse House.
Star Wars: Episode VII is directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8), who is also now writing the screenplay with Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back), after Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt was removed due to time constraints. Kathleen Kennedy and Abrams-collaborator Bryan Burk are producing.
