La Luna Debuts, Poster Revealed

La Luna, the newest short out of Pixar, the one likely to be attached to Pixar's 13th feature film, Brave, debuted recently at the Annecy International Film Festival. According to the short's director, Enrico Casarosa, and his blog, the short was the finale of the opening night. Enrico also shares with us the short's poster (above), which looks really stunning, Pixar have always been on top form for posters (and everything else for that matter), and this seems to be no exception.

La Luna looks and sounds great and, as it is likely going to be attached to 2012's Brave, it is quickly making Pixar's first fairytale my most anticipated animated film.

A113Animation Competition

You may have noticed for a few months now that there has been a page shrouded in mystery, the Competition Page. Well, it is no longer "Under Construction", it is now up and running and if you head over there you will see the above image. We are happy to announce the conditions of the first ever A113Animation Competition; you will have the chance to judge the the first ever "Second Opinion Award" AND win a free copy of the original Cars on DVD. All you have to do to win is write up a fairly detailed review (don't just put it in a big font) of any animated film from 2011 (including Tangled as that only came out in January in the UK so will be included in the awards) and e-mail it to a113animation@gmail.com by 5th October 2011. I will then read each one carefully and announce (on the blog) and contact the winner via their e-mail by the 20th October.

Also, please be sure to include your mailing address in the e-mail entry, so we know where to send the prize.

We're all very excited about this competition and hope it will be the first of many, so please, enter, tell your friends and just have fun.

Tangled Released on DVD/Blu Ray

Those of you that frequent the blog will know that I loved Tangled (my review is a testament to that) and firmly believe that it is the best Disney film since the 90s. So, though I am usually useless at posting about new animated releases on DVD and Blu Ray, I am pleased to tell you all that Tangled is now out on DVD and Blu Ray in the UK.

It has my ringing endorsement, with a strong 9/10 and is (at the moment) my pick to win this year's A113Animation Awards. I would wholly reccomend buying it ASAP, I know I will.

A Collection of Things - Blogwise

Newest Rio Clip

The newest clip for Blue Sky Studios' upcoming film, Rio, was released today (above). As I predicted, as the film's April release date draws ever closer, we're being treated to more and more clips, and they're all great. As regular blog followers will know, Rio is one of the animated films that I'm most looking forward to this year and these clips are very reassuring!

The animation looks great, the music looks great, the story sounds great and - as the film that allegedly was the reason for Pixar's newt being cancelled - I'm hoping it is great.

It's just came to my attention that author David A. Price, posted about my review of his brilliant book on his blog! As I said at the time the book is great and I'm enormously grateful to David for including my post, it's very honouring!

I encourage you all to buy the book ASAP, you won't be disappointed!

I'm Back! - Animation News Catch-Up

Apologies for the week long hiatus guys, but even I need a holiday once in a while. Nonetheless, I'm now back. With that being said, look forward to a massive horde of updates over the next couple of days, including:

• All of the news in the animation world that I've missed over the past week, and believe me, there's a lot!
• Some brand new blog features, including Facebook intergration, new logos, word of the week section and... a mysyterious competition page!
• A review of David A. Price's The Pixar Touch book!
• My first ever uploaded drawing!

However, I have a funny story from my holiday; whilst turning on the somewhat questionably limited holiday TV that we had in our hotel, the first progrmme that came up was The Incredibles (in Spanish). It seems I can never escape animation! This leads me into a news feed, below we have a sneak peak at one of the many new features for The Incredibles' Blu Ray release, Nomanisan Island Redevelopment Plan.

The Ghost of Toy Story 3's Past

I'm sure that you're aware that back in 2006, when it looked like Disney and Pixar were going to part ways, Disney founded Circle 7 Animation to create sequels to existing Pixar films, starting with Toy Story 3.

However this version of TS3 was cancelled following the merger in 2006 and Circle 7 subsequently closed.
However, some artwork and story information has just been posted online on Bob & Rob's blog (2 screenwriters that worked on the Circle 7 version), it certainly sounded intriguing, but could it honestly hold a candle to Pixar's version? The plot involves Buzz being recalled to Taiwan and the others trying to help him.
