Sony Pictures Animation Teases 'Get Smurfy'

Remember these two live-action/CG hybrids Smurf movies? How could you forget them? They were absolutely terrible, unfunny flicks, complete with creepy looking Smurfs. Thankfully, it looks like Sony head-studios came to their senses, as they decided to reboot the franchise, with an aesthetic closer to comic artist Peyo's drawings. Sony Picture Animation revealed three voice actors, the title of this new film, a synopsis and a first look at some of the characters.

The film will be called Get Smurfy, which is pretty terrible, but sill a better title than The Smurfs 3 would have been: at least it won't be connected in any way to the past two films.

The voice actors that have been cast are Demi Lovato (who will play Smurfette), Rainn Wilson (as evil wizard Gargamel) and Mandy Patinkin (Papa Smurf). Watch the actors make the announcement themselves:

Here's the synopsis:
Get Smurfy finds Smurfette and her brothers trekking through the uncharted Enchanted Forest to try and discover a fabled Smurfs village before their nemesis, the evil wizard Gargamel, does. Along the way, some of the mysteries of the little blue creatures' origins are brought to light: do Smurfs come in any other colors? are their mushroom houses organic? And... why are there 99 boys and only one girl???
Sony Pictures Animation plans to release Get Smurfy (directed by Kelly Asbury) on the 31st March, 2017.
