'The Good Dinosaur' Gets New Voices

When it was announced that Bob Peterson quit the project, leaving Pete Sohn as the solo director of The Good Dinosaur, we knew some changes were gonna happen; we just didn't know what these changes were. Today, as Pixar announced an almost entirely different voice cast than the one they gave away two years ago, things become a little clearer.

  • The only person who was announced before and remains part of the film is Frances McDormand. She'll be playing Momma, Arlo's mother.
  • Arlo the Apatosaurus - the main character in the movie - was supposed to be voiced by Lucas Neff. He has been replaced by Raymond Ochoa, a 13-year old actor. When John Lasseter said at Cannes that 'this is a boy and a dog story, but the roles are reversed. Arlo, the dinosaur, is the boy in the story and Spot is the dog', we should've taken it as a hint: Arlo will indeed be voiced by a boy, as it appears the character will be younger than he was in the first version of the movie.
  • Similarly, Bill Hader has been replaced by young actor Marcus Scribner. Scribner will play Buck, Arlo's brother. Bill Hader was supposed to be Forrest (the name has changed too), and this would have been his third consecutive Pixar movie appearance.
  • Arlo's other siblings (Ivy and Cliff) who were supposed to be voiced respectively by Judy Greer and Neil Patrick Harris have been cut from the film.
  • John Lithgow won't provide the voice for Poppa, Arlo's father: this role will now go to Jeffrey Wright.
  • Spot, Arlo's human friend, will be played by Jack Bright.

We also learned about new characters:
  • Steve Zahn will be a pterodactyl called Thunderclap.
  • There will be three T-Rex character: Nash (voiced by AJ Buckley), Ramsey (Anna Paquin) and a tough on named Butch (Sam Elliott).

What do you think of the changes? Do you like that Arlo is now a young dinosaur?
