DreamWorks' first film of 2013 is the prehistoric caveman comedy, The Croods. People have mixed feelings about it so far, but I am whole-heartedly excited! The clips we've seen so far are really funny, extremely inventive, utterly beautiful and - if the rest of co-director Chris Sanders' career has been any indication - the film will pack a lot of heart.
I particularly like the first clip, "Hunting" (above), which looks absolutely stunning in HD -- sidebar: we'll have a review of The Art of The Croods up in the next couple of weeks. The comedy is in really good form in the "Prehistoric Fails" and "Fire" clips too. UPDATE - 26/02/2013, 21:47 (GMT): A few of the videos turned out to be region locked; I've swapped in hopefully widely available versions. Let me know in the comments if you still have any problems seeing any of the videos.
Of note - well, I can't speak for the US, but here in the UK anyway - is how aggressively DreamWorks are marketing the film, particularly after their less-than-fortuitous results with Rise of the Guardians. The Croods is the first film under DreamWorks' new distribution deal with 20th Century Fox - they're presumably hoping to impress.
The Croods is directed by Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, and stars the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds; it hits cinemas on 22nd March.
