First Look: How to Train Your Dragon 2

At CinemaCon last week, as part of their extensive animation panel, Fox treated attendees to a little look at the sequel to DreamWorks' acclaimed 2010 hit. Today, some pictures, showing promotional material for How to Train Your Dragon 2, have surfaced online.

The first thing to note is that, as reported, all the characters - most notably Hiccup - are a good few years older and tougher looking. Some images and some concept art (below) surfaced, alongside the cool temp poster at the top. The images also come with a bit of a plot synopsis:

“Hiccup and Toothless lead hundreds of hero dragons in defense of Dragon Mountain, battling against Drago Bloodfist’s huge army of Dragon Hunters and their ruthless war machines. The mighty Bewilderbeast, Master of Dragon Mountain, rises to join Hiccup against Drago’s forces, but Drago has a secret weapon – his own enslaved Bewilderbeast arrives to turn the tide. Hiccup and Drago lead their massive armies in an epic showdown.”

So, that's an interesting plot description, some gorgeous concept art, and it's a sequel to one of the greatest animated films in recent memory - so far How to Train Your Dragon 2 is shaping up to be one, of many, to watch next year.

Dragon 2, which will see the return of the first film's voice cast (including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill and Gerard Butler), is directed by Dean DeBlois, who co-helmed the first film with The Croods' Chris Sanders. The film opens mid-2014, on 20th June in the US, and on 4th July in the UK.
