Edgar Wright's Ant-Man To Undergo Rewrites

Now that Phase 2 has officially begun, it's no surprise that Marvel are starting to knuckle down in preparation for the rest of their MCU films. Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is going to get a rewrite, but it's for a good reason.

Even though Ant-Man is going to be the first film in Phase 3, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is keen to get serious about making it fit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige said to Entertainment Weekly:

“Frankly, now we have to re-write it to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed.”

The script is being written by pals Edgar Wright (whose latest film, The World's End opens in the UK in July, and the US in August) and Joe Cornish (Attack The Block), who co-wrote 2011's The Adventures of Tintin with Doctor Who's Steven Moffat.

“[Edgar Wright] has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one,” says Feige.

The Ant-Man suit from the test footage showed at last summer's Comic-Con.

It sure sounds exciting and it's nice to know the makers of the film are taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe seriously, especially as it's so unique. The Marvel head honcho also briefly discussed how and when casting for the film will be done:

“We've talked about various names over the past eight years, but as you can imagine, they keep changing as time goes by. But toward the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script.”

Ant-Man has a US release date for 6th November, 2015.
