Warner Bros. unveiled the teaser trailer for the first film in its rejuvenated animation plan today. Directed by Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, The LEGO Movie focuses on an average-joe Lego by the name of Emmet (voice of Park and Recreation's Chris Pratt) fighting to save the world from bad guys Will Ferrell and Liam Neeson.
Considering many seem to have written the film off, I thought this teaser was actually pretty good. The Lego animation is a little odd at first, but I happen to like it - the limited movement echoes the thoughtful 8-bit animation of Wreck-It Ralph - and the directors have clearly imbued the film with the same quirky humour as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs; the voice acting is spot on, and the spectacle looks very inventive.
The particular highlight for me was the Batman joke, made even better by the fact it was delivered by Will Arnett. The cast also includes Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman, Alison Brie and Nick Offerman, and the film assembles itself on 7th February, 2014 in the US, and 14th in the UK. Here's a new poster too:
