Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has been busy adding new cast in the last few weeks, with Doctor Who's Karen Gillian and six-time Academy Award nominee, Glenn Close joining the team.
It's been reported that Gillan, who is best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor's assistant, Amy Pond, in the fifth series, will be swapping sides by being the head of the film's villain team. It is unknown whether Close will be on the good or bad side yet, but I have a sneaky feeling she'll be on the good team.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be about an alien superhero team, who protect space and earth from an evil team. The team will be led by Peter Quill, played by Parks and Rec funny-man Chris Pratt.
Other cast confirmed are Zoe Salanda (Star Trek), Lee Pace (The Hobbit), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), and Dave Bautista (a former WWE wrestler). It's looking like an impressive cast, that's for sure!
The film is being directed by James Gunn (Super) and is scheduled to begin filming in the UK later this month.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing and hearing updates from this movie, as it's the first original Marvel film in Marvel Phase 2 among many sequels. Having a team of alien species will be very interesting, but also extremely fun to watch with a setting in space.
At the moment, Guardians of the Galaxy has a 1st August, 2014 release date.
