Disney to Distribute The Wind Rises in North America

Though Studio Ghibli's latest, The Wind Rises, has opened to some controversy, Disney has decided to go ahead and handle the American distribution for the film. This was somewhat expected as Disney has handled much of Studio Ghibli's distribution in the past.

But according to /Film, Studio Ghibli did have a short lived distribution deal with Gkids from around 2011 until recently. Gkids not only handled recent film distribution (including From Up on Poppy Hill), but it also mounted most of Studio Ghibli's repertoire across the country last year.

There is yet to be an official American release date for The Wind Rises, but with powerhouse Disney handling it, you can be sure to expect it will be well represented.

The Wind Rises tells the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the engineer for the Zero fighter planes of WWII.
